Re: Nyrna - suspend applications

Process Hacker can also suspend processes, with "suspend" and "resume" options in the context menu.

Note that it's expected that a program freezes if you suspend it. Suspending blocks it from executing at all. Resuming should unfreeze it just fine though.

Re: Flashpoint - game and animation archive

Heh, I didn't even realize Flashpoint and Kahvibreak were from the same authors. :) Probably not too surprising, the projects' goals are related.

Re: What OSS licenses are people actually using?

This site mostly looks at library repositories, and permissive licenses dominate there because an (L)GPL licensed library would be significantly harder to utilize in commercial software.

In end user software (i.e. regular programs), (L)GPL is more popular than in libraries.

Re: Linux Sucks 2021

I don't agree with the premise of that video. GNU/Linux remains the dominant operating system in servers, and I don't see it changing. There's a lot of inertia involved in changing operating systems (even in servers) and GNU/Linux is free and good enough for the needs of nearly all companies. On des...

Re: Visual Studio Code Portable - modern code editor

It doesn't appear to be widespread, but using caution with Visual Studio add-ons might be wise: https://www.itsecurityguru.org/2021/05/27/vscode-extension-vulnerabilities-could-lead-to-cyberattacks-on-the-supply-chain/ I have been keeping an eye on VSCode updates out of interest and I'm aware of vu...

Another issue with Mozilla VPN: it's still only available in eight countries at this point (USA, Canada, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, Germany and France).

Re: Keppi (music visualizer)

I released Keppi 3.82. YouTube playback broke due to a youtube-dl update, and that finally prompted me to update the program. Changelog: Track list extraction improvements. Added detection for AC-3 codec. Fixed crash with YouTube videos. Fixed crash when metadata character set detection fails.

Re: Vivaldi (Opera [inspired] browser alternative)

Vivaldi's update on cookies and ad-blocking https://www.theregister.com/2021/04/29/vivaldi_3_8/ (and read the comments) Nice. :) Blocking cookie prompts is similar to how I have set Vivaldi to auto-reject any sites which ask for permission to send push notifications - almost no sites which want it ...

Re: Classic Browser (Chromium based)

We have a definition of portability in our about page , and not having to manually copy settings around is the most important part . So I've been told... but it's full of fallacies: ie: “It must not have any coupling with Internet Explorer…” That's a part of Andrew's ideal definition of "portable":...

Re: Classic Browser (Chromium based)

I mean, are settings preserved when running Classic Browser on a different machine? Only if you also grab this folder... C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\ClassicUser So that's not portable at all. We have a definition of portability in our about page , and not having to manually copy setting...
