Re: Hornil StylePix - Image/Photo Editor

The latest portable version won't run on my Win7 laptop. I get a message suggesting I contact the author to find out whether I need a 32-bit or 64-bit version. My computer is exclusively x86, so apparently 32-bit support was not included in this version. There has been absolutely no response to the ...

Re: MDict

Just a followup about Lingoes: After downloading the portable version and trying it out I exited the app and tried to delete it. Windows complained that the file OpenText32.dll was still running, and left it behind. Sure enough, it showed up in Task Manager. It couldn't be terminated, so I had to lo...

Re: MDict

You should try some of the above apps, they are easier to work. But thank you for the info. I tried Alpus and Lingoes, and wasn't impressed by either of them, as I wasn't able to increase the font size to suit my tired old eyes. MDict allows that, and I find the other configuration options more rea...

Re: MDict

Well, let me spoil you with a slightly bigger dictionary ! Yikes! Well, I just got finished converting the dict.cc German to English dictionary for MDict. Then I realized that I also wanted their English to German dictionary as well, and I could merge the two of them for searching in either...

Re: MDict

I never knew there were so many dictionary filetypes. MDict can work with databases from the German-English online dictionary Dict.cc. It's a lot of fiddling around, however. You have to download the MDX Builder software from the MDict website. You then have to visit dict.cc and request the database...

MDict

Has anyone tried the MDict dictionary reader? You can download the latest version for Windows here: https://www.mdict.cn/wp/?page_id=5325&lang=en On the same page you'll find dictionary database files (extension: *.mdx), including an older version of the WordNet database that WordWeb is based on...

Re: PhotoDemon

@PhotoDemon: I just tested your latest nightly build, and am delighted to see the new Save As option, the result of a request by another user. I've used several other apps that try to save a file I'm working on to a folder I had used in a previous session. It's so much more convenient to use the cur...

Re: STDU Viewer

I stopped trying to use STDU several years ago, because it was crashing all too often, and also because it failed to render my favorite font for plain-text files, even though that font works fine everywhere else on my system. My bug reports were never acknowledged.

Re: PhotoDemon

Some remarks about those hotkeys: I tend to set a lot of custom hotkeys, too, but there have been many times when I've assigned one which has already been assigned globally by me to start some other app. Naturally my global hotkey will always override the one I've tried to set within an individual a...

Re: PhotoDemon

Really trying to like this, but constantly having to fight with it to get my old workflow to adjust, lacks so much customization like hotkey changing, panning with the middle click, changing what's on those toolbars, color of the background, etc. It's quick to load I'll give it that, but still slug...

Re: PhotoDemon

PhotoDemon 8.2 has just been released, and the author is already working on 9.0, which is bound to have lots of enhancements!

Re: PhotoDemon

Thanks for letting us know. And welcome to the forums, GerryB . My pleasure. I see from the nightly builds that the author's already working on version 8.2, just when I thought PhotoDemon could do just about anything. A fullscreen viewing option would be nice, but I won't request it,...

Re: PhotoDemon

PhotoDemon 8.0 now has full support for Windows icons, in response to my feature request to the author on his Github site. He's very receptive to feedback, and his attention to detail has resulted in a really great alternative to PhotoShop. In fact, because it is freeware I often think of it as a po...
