Re: Advanced text finder and viewer

I'm looking for a portable freeware that can search in a lot of text files and has the following features. Can search for mispelled words. e.g. if I look for "chocolate" it should find "chocloate" as well. I can't think of any search program like this. As far as I can recall not even Spotlight on m...

Re: Bvckup - high speed "delta" sync

Hi guys, It is fully portable indeed: "diskovery.exe -c X:\Data\Diskovery" Alex Can confirm that using the path argument stores the settings and logs in the application directory. Thanks. However the program still by default sets an association for .diskovery files. This can be changed in the self-...

Re: Bvckup 2 (commercial version)

By my understanding, if you go to buy and you see that the Purchase page lists a "Basic" license option, you've missed the boat and the newer licensing terms are already in effect. From the dev, Alex Pankratov: "There are two types of updates - milestone (feature) releases and maintenance (bugfix) ...

Re: Vivaldi - Opera Browser Alternative

Got around to installing Vivaldi in portable ('Standalone') mode and wanted to mention that it also creates files within AppData. Note that I used the installer to install in portable mode however I'm unsure if these files were created following the installation or after launching the program. C:\Us...

Re: LIII BitTorrent Client

Looks very easy to use. Any other impressions in comparison to uTorrent? Similar to you I use an old version of uTorrent (though on a Mac) and wondered what, for example, this would need to make you switch. On the Mac version at least uTorrent's settings window is also rather lean.

Re: Everything (lightning fast file search engine)

Anyone know if there's an icon cache specific to Everything? I updated an icon for a filetype, refreshed the IconCache.db in Windows, and after a restart Windows itself is using the new icons but not Everything. Tried rebuilding Everything's database but no luck. Edit: exiting Everything then openin...

Re: Windows 9 is... Windows 10

Russian roulette with Windows updates When I read such stuff I always smile, I even gloat, the idiots fully deserve what they chose to get. Not gonna lie I too gloat a little, though mostly when it's from users who'd previously argue incessantly that W10 was the 'best Windows ever'... even despite ...

Re: The Electron framework and portable software

Practical case to highlight what we're talking about here: Arora browser (first mentioned by SimonT at https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=19027#p19027). Why can't a browser look and feel this lightweight? (Granted that memory footprint is for a single window/page with nothing o...

I remember playing this back in 2002. Not so much a looker but the premise is simple and engaging enough.

Re: Converseen

The SVG conversion in particular piqued my curiosity, since the format can contain complex formatting, CSS, animations and even literal HTML elements. Took Converseen for a whirl and it had some rather odd rendering for SVGs of complexity I tested—which wasn't unexpected, as you'd honestly need an u...

Re: HTTP Downloader reget

Ever since the ancient demise of Gigaget (and of the Flashgot Firefox extension more recently) I have been pretty unsatisfied with GUI download managers so I resorted to CLI downloaders like Wget . But it is hard to effectively integrate that with modern browsers -- let's see if HTTP Downloader can...

Re: Need help with some software

Can you give some more info on that please? I've tried to google some info but the only video I've found useful was not deatiled enough. So I need some more help since it is my first time actually making an animation instead of simple editing. Wouldn't be able to help there since I don't use it per...

I would have thought After Effects was perfect for this, unless I'm just unwittingly falling for a spam topic.

Re: In final blow to 'legacy' Firefox Mozilla will be deleting XUL addons from catalog in the coming months

*snip* You make some decent points though I'll mention as a counter-example that Opera supported its legacy Presto addons for years after its own transition. It did this by hiding the Presto addons sometime after from their addon catalog search results but retaining the original pages, able to be f...

Re: In final blow to 'legacy' Firefox Mozilla will be deleting XUL addons from catalog in the coming months

The maintenance effort is mostly reviewing the extensions (as well as updates) in order to avoid malicious extensions. The effort depends on how much updates XUL extensions are getting, not from how many people download them. Should have clarified my comment as it was mostly based on the response t...
