Re: The Electron framework and portable software

Well, it kinda puzzled me why it was named one way and displayed another, but I couldn't put my finger on it until you called it out. No ill effects whatsoever up to now, but I'll just recheck everything. :| Meanwhile, it impressed me by how quickly it fires up, how nimble it feels when opening any ...

Re: Winamp [audio player]

Apparently, Winamp is preparing a comeback... so moving topic to 'non-portables' sub-forum until further notice.

Re: The Electron framework and portable software

Practical case to highlight what we're talking about here: Arora browser (first mentioned by SimonT at https://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=19027#p19027). Why can't a browser look and feel this lightweight? (Granted that memory footprint is for a single window/page with nothing on...

Re: Telegram - cross platform, secure chat

Whoa, comrade, I feel your pain, really do. But in this dark age of unbridled capitalism we have to make do with what is given to us, and you have to agree that a written statement in allegiance to users by a top man is better than what the competition provides -- i.e., nothing. I have been using Te...

Re: Telegram - cross platform, secure chat

Cause I believe this marks a whole different approach to social platforms in terms of accountability and transparency, I'm sharing the last message of Telegram's founder via his own channel. Last week at Telegram was intense -– we’ve been busy polishing the rough spots in our new iOS app (https://t....

Re: The APNG format

Good. The breakdown regarding browser compatibility (my emphasis)... Compatibility: * When Chrome 59 comes out of beta, it will be supported on every major browser except for Microsoft Edge/IE. If the images above are not moving for you, your browser doesn't support APNG. * Firefox has supported APN...

Oh, and a picture is worth a thousand words...

Re: Yori (advanced CMD replacement)

I don't have any idea what yerase.exe does for example. Does it wipe files? It doesn't say. That's an easy one... :) > yerase -? Erase 0.97 Delete one or more files. ERASE [-license] [-b] [-r] [-s] <file> [<file>...] -b Use basic search criteria for files only -r Send files to the recycle bin -s Er...

Re: Yori (advanced CMD replacement)

Yori v0.97 released, dated 2018-09-11 (changelog added: http://www.malsmith.net/yori/changelog/). There's also a user guide now: http://www.malsmith.net/yori/guide/. Alas, the download provided is now a web-installer, couldn't find any EXE archives like before... EDIT: after some snooping around, I...

Re: Atlantis Word Processor [not portable]

I'm glad another fake portability claim got caught out. I have lost count of the times a dev's claimed portability doesn't measure up to bare essentials after testing, with users being blamed for the fail. 8)

Bitser (DotNET Archive Manager)

I haven't found Bitser around and it looks like a decent 7z based archive manager in active development, so it's time it got a post. DotNET requirement is v4 and, sadly, Bitser isn't natively portable -- there's only an installer executable for download and after iterating through ( Uni )extraction ...

Re: Stock.Div

Latest Stock.Div version is v4.7.3 (no changelog).

In trying to test Stock.Div, I became stuck because it doesn't support https://markets.businessinsider.com/ as data source. Is it expectable that it will be added?

Re: CLI hashing script

Improving on my own previous solution, here's a hybrid batch script that works in Windows 7 and doesn't require any external utility, only an existing Powershell v4 or newer -- apparently that ' get-filehash ' command doesn't work in previous versions. I was lead to this solution from the simple val...
