Re: Eassos PartitionGuru Free
Works like a charm. Saves some time one would otherwise have to spend for unpacking or installing/copying. Very useful. Thanks a lot for this one and for your Portable PotPlayer Generator. More of those please :) ! Just a tiny remark. The program created the folders PG32 and PG64 with the subfolders...

Re: XVA Assistant
It would be a great program if it made portable packages (including the necessary registry entries), even if the packages were bound to be used with the launcher and not separately. The current problem is (according to the information from the developer) that the packages need a system driver to wor...

Re: XVA Assistant

Re: XVA Assistant
I contacted the author. According to his explanations XVA has "application-virtualization capabilities". It is supposed to be able to create "portable software packages" including an application's files and the necessary registry entries. This function is currently available on 3...

Re: SFXMaker 1.3 Final is out
Thanks for your reply. I agree, that a higher level of portability (i.e. no requirement of admin rights) is more important than potential improvements in a new version. (Well, if there are some "revolutionary" improvements I may change my point of view.) Anyway, the 1.2.1 version works fin...

SFXMaker 1.3 Final is out
According to the website a new final of SFXMaker (1.3) was released on April 18th.
http://www.isoft-online.com/
As I tried the new version it refused to start on a limited account (WinXP SP2). This was something new compared to the previous final (1.2.1). Can anyone confirm it?

Re: Positive press on lifehacker today...
Its called framing. People use it all the time in politics. So here in the States its "climate change" rather than "global warming" on the right or "green initiatives" rather than "industry subsidies" on the left. Yeah you know where you bring that up? Here. ...

Re: What is portable?
In my opinion it is pointless to discuss whether wintel people did hijack the term or not. A language behaves like a living creature. It changes over time, it adapts new terms for new phenomena and discards terms which have become usless over time. It may also change the meaning of terms. As I do no...

Re: Geometer 1.5.5
Shortcut on the desktop - confirmed. Calls home - There is a welcome window on first start. It disappears when you click on the button which brings you to the author's website. (There is no other way to get rid of it.) Afterward the window won't show up. "Calling home behavior" - partly co...

I contacted the author, sent him a brushed up version of the "German.lng" file of his program and asked him whether it would be possible to make the program stealth. I have just received an answer from him with the following two dowlnoad links to the new version of the program: http://www....

Re: Updates for the 24th December
But I actually feel a bit uncomfortable getting the attention. I've learned so much from this site that I feel it's okay to give something back, even if I'm anything but a software pro. Lovely :D It is a nice bunch of people here, so you have to be prepared for getting at least a bit of attention. ...

MediaMonkey Portable
The latest version of MediaMonkey (ver. 4.0.0.1459) offers the option of a portable installation. The installer needs to be run with admin privileges. In the window where the installation path has to be chosen, there is a checkbox for the portable installation option. It works fine, but I haven't te...

Re: Multi Commander
You won't ever believe it. First install it. You can do it even without admin rights. Then open the "Help" menu. The last entry of the penultimate section is "Install Multi-Commander on USB-device." A potential USB-location is preset (anyhow it was the case on my computer). When ...
