Re: BlueStacks Android emulator

I had gotten a flip touch-screen laptop computer. Thought it would be great to run an Android emulator on it as well as Windows and have the best of both worlds, as it was an 11.6" screen. Putting an SSD drive in helped with a lot of the slowness from emulation, as well as the laptop's slower proces...

Re: small footprint 'text editor' program with command line ?

You don't need AutoHotKey after the script is compiled. The final binary executable is about 800KB.

Re: small footprint 'text editor' program with command line ?

This worked for me in AutoHotKey: SearchString = %1% FilePath = %2% SplitPath, FileName, OutFileName Run, %windir%\system32\notepad.exe %FilePath% WinActivate, "%FileName% - Notepad" ControlFocus, "%FileName% - Notepad" Sleep, 300 Send ^{f} Send %SearchString% Send {Enter} Send {Alt down}{F4}{Alt up...

Re: small footprint 'text editor' program with command line ?

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding what you're looking for, but I often use AutoHotkey to supplement features I don't find in other programs. Wouldn't a small AutoHotkey program, working on Notepad or any text editor, do this just fine? Seems there may be two ways to go about this. First, would be t...

Re: Moonlight Gamestream Client

It's an interesting idea. This would solve the problem of how PCs have generally far better graphics capability than most mobile devices, but I don't see a lot of PC games with a great touch interface. You couldn't for example play any of the FarCry series without a keyboard+mouse. Usually use a bl...

Moonlight Gamestream Client

Just noticed this on the PortableApps submission forum the other day - the Moonlight Gamestream project has come out with a portable, no-install version of it's client for Windows (x32 and x64). Moonlight (formerly Limelight) is an open source implementation of NVIDIA's GameStream protocol. We imple...

Re: Safe password generation

This is actually an android app but it's a pretty good concept: Privacy Friendly Password Generator https://secuso.aifb.kit.edu/english/Password_Generator.php Basically, you remember one password. All other passwords are generated from a unique field (customer name, website address, etc.) The same p...

Re: USB-C cables ins and outs

Very informative. Thanks for posting that. I've got tons of cables laying all over the place, many of them USB. I'll have to be more careful in the future with the USB-C ones (not to mix them up). This actually might explain some problems I've had with these types of cables. I bought a long USB-C ca...

Too many notes...

If anyone's interested in developing a new program that seems to have not been done yet, a Notes Converter would be extremely useful. There are many different ways to save notes on the internet, online and offline, but moving notes between applications is not always easy, although some applications ...

Re: Coffee Addict freewares: Kryptos; Win.Privacy; Agnitio

Saw in the comments for Agnitio mention of a similar project called GAVPI - https://github.com/baykovr/AVPI GAVPI is an open source voice command software / speech recognition key bind tool. Using gavpi you can execute repetitive or complex tasks using your voice. It can be used with any application...

I've used LibreOffice for viewing and converting old Microsoft Office and Works documents to newer formats.

CD/DVD Burner that consistently works

I am aware of and have been using (not as often any more, though) the different freeware programs for burning CDs and DVDs, like ImgBurn, InfraRecorder, and CDBurnerXP. I guess I'm just getting frustrated at these programs not consistently working in different computers/CD-DVD drives and wasting dis...

Re: Remote Desktop Manager

I've now worked with this software for a few days to determine it's usefulness, and I just thought I'd share some of my experiences with the community. As a remote connections manager, it offers some features not found in most other apps of it's kind, such as plugins for embedded sessions of Teamvie...
