Re: Pale Moon - web browser
Shouldn't the title of the database entry be simply "Pale Moon" instead of "Pale Moon Portable"? Usually "__________ Portable" signifies a PortableApps release is the preferred portable version. Plenty of apps provide a portable installer for a portable version (Calibre...

Re: CCleaner Portable
Yeah, I was thinking the "download the zip, but if the zip isn't available yet download and extract the exe..." would remain as the instructions -- unless they start releasing the zip at the same time again, or stop releasing it entirely.

Re: CCleaner Portable
I edited the CCleaner download link to point to their "builds" page and included both methods to the "how to extract", with a mention of this new delay.

Re: CCleaner Portable
I didn't see any of this after testing both 5.38 and 5.37 in Sandboxie myself, they act and scan in the same exact manner. Thanks! I investigated further and you're correct: the behavior does not vary based on the version, but rather whether the settings exist: if there's an empty ccleaner.ini file...

Re: CCleaner Portable
The download link for CCleaner is currently dead, and the portable build is not available. I spent a bunch of time testing CCleaner's installer for version 5.38, and then I found this on their forum: https://forum.piriform.com/topic/49281-wheres-the-portable-version/ I extracted the installer with 7...

Re: Portable Torrent Client with uTorrent
The installer is a 7-zip archive. Extract with 7-zip or UniExtract. "Carrier.exe" is what we want. Rename it to uTorrent.exe. The other files are just installer junk. Thanks! I should have considered that "Carrier.exe" might be what I wanted when I looked at the contents in 7-zi...

Re: Portable Torrent Client with uTorrent
The download from uTorrent now runs the installer even if "settings.dat" is in the folder, meaning that the "how to extract" directions are now incorrect. The install appears to be portable - it installs in the user's "roaming" directory, with no option to specify an al...

Anti-Twin - duplicate finder that can match SIMILAR names
Added Anti-Twin to the database: http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2260 http://www.anti-twin.com/ I tried again to find a duplicate file detector that can help me get rid of some of my old installers, and I hit the jackpot this morning with a portable and free (for personal use) program. ...

Re: 4ur-Windows-8-Mouse-Balls
When I saw the new entry in the database RSS feed, I suspected that someone had gamed the submission system to make a crude joke. This must be the silliest name of any program in the database! Because I searched for it on the forum to check, I saw that joby_toss mentioned it last July, so I changed ...

Re: PortableApps Launcher wishlist
Somewhat related to "Directory Freedom", I would ask for more polite activity (or at least more transparent) on installation and update. I recently was notified that the launcher required an update, and I allowed it to update itself. I have it "installed" in F:\Apps\PortableApps\...

Re: HostsMan
Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't help, but I tried a couple more search term combinations and found out on dslreports forums that removing ad.doubleclick.net does the trick. I wouldn't consider unblocking that one permanently, but I can probably set up an easy way to toggle a comment.

Re: HostsMan
'HostsMan' has an exclusions list which is what you need...this way you don't have to keep swapping 'hosts' files. HostsXpert has a whitelist, too. I was able to find out which blocked servers were preventing me from viewing videos from ESPN and add them to the whitelist, but I haven't been able to...

Re: HostsMan
You do need administrator rights to edit the hosts file. In my (limited) experience, I don't I have to reboot after editing my hosts file, nor do I flush the DNS cache. I just close the browser. I sometimes replace my MVPs hosts file with the default file using HostsXpert (which has many, but not al...

Re: FocusWriter Portable
3. The program lists a " Portable Mode ," which might mean its natively portable. It is, in fact, natively portable. There's no Windows installer - the Windows build is distributed as a zip archive only. The ReadMe file in the archive says: Create a folder named "Data" in the sa...

Note that you can only access U.S. and Canadian TV listings if you have a subscription to Schedules Direct, which is $25 per year.
