Re: Instantbird

By this same rationale it unfortunately appears that InstantBird is probably insecure (evidently no activity for more than a year). The stable release may be insecure as it's using an old version of libpurple. The project isn't dead, though. The Mercurial repository, now hosted at Mozilla, is still...

Re: Best Firefox plugin(s)

Previously mentioned EFF's Privacy Badger has reached v1.0 (no changelog, release history is at http://github.com/EFForg/privacybadgerfirefox/releases ); download from: Privacy Badger blocks spying ads and invisible trackers http://www.eff.org/privacybadger Thought I'd give this a go instead of ABP...

Re: Google Code is going, going .... (will be) gone.

That's the thing about creating something then giving it away for free though. At first you're all hyped and are using it as a way of learning as well as because you have some ideas you just think people would like. Few years down the line and you end up where you need to do a total rewrite from the...

Re: Some AV protection

It's all well and good not using an AV so long as it's not the family computer. I have no protection on my laptop as i am the sole user but on this desktop I have a running AV and scan monthly with MBAM.

Re: Free and cool Android apps

I agree some of the entries are ancient. But being old don't necessarily make it bad -- I know, I'm old, too, and I still run Windows XP. Please enlighten us with a better list or else some substantive reasons why some particular software on the list might be bad... :| Well I already listed the two...

Re: Free and cool Android apps

For an updated list of the best freeware Android apps, check Gizmo's neatly classified listings: Best Free Android Apps http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-android-apps.htm That's a really bad list. I think they started it about 5 years ago and have just been adding to it without checking wha...

Re: Ubiquitous Player

@carbonize No, the developer of Ubiquitous Player has given e-mail address (Contact me). That's nice of him and how many times have you emailed the developer of something you use just to thank them? If he wanted feedback then he should of started a page on one of the social networking sites. But go...

Just how was he expecting feedback? As far as I can see he only has a blog which has comments disabled anyway.

Re: Best Firefox plugin(s)

We're not talking benchmarks we're talking about the basics. Sometimes it becomes unresponsive and I have to wait. Hopefully E10 will go someway to rectifying this issue

Re: Suggestion of new field: "Release Date"

People seem to forget that America is not the only one still using Imperial system. Here in the UK we are only partially metric. We still drive in MPH, drink pints, give our height in feet and inches and weight in stones. As to the date issue can't we just store a timestamp and then registered users...

Re: Best Firefox plugin(s)

I find Adblock Edge much more effective. Click for video intro in German. Isn't the only difference between Plus and Edge that Edge commented out the code that allowed for the option of allowing some ads? Certainly was the only difference at the start and I made my feelings known about the authors ...

Re: Free SMTP Server (email dispatch utility)

Showing it's age with references to Outlook Express and Eudora. But then it was last updated in 2009. Strange thing is that an SMTP server isn't that hard a thing to write so surprised there are not more out there.
