Re: K-Meleon (alternative engine web browser)

Midas, Hope you are well... I totally agree with you - there's still some dev cycle uncertainty with this app. I still follow the releases on John's Portable Apps site as he does update the portableapps package periodically. To make this a viable browser option, the UI definitely needs a facelift an...

Re: Xelitan PDF Reader

This is really good and fast. I believe it rivals Sumatra PDF; it is much smaller in size, fast to load, and has a more modern UI. This one is going into my tool kit as my default PDF viewer.

Cheers!

Re: Xelitan File Finder

Not bad, but will not search sub-folders within in a folder - maybe add a checkbox to include sub-folders after you select a path. Also, when you click an item on the list, maybe open the file; you have to right-click on the item (presents some options) to open it. I do like the simple interface - l...

Re: CCode - new small and powerful text editor.

Not bad... not bad at all. App is small, fast, and not bloated. For me, this is a really promising effort and a serious replacement for what I use today (namely Bowpad). I ran into the same items that Midas pointed out. I'm on an x64 box, running a super-locked down W11 OS (LOL please don't throw to...

Re: Windows Updates (Out-of-Support MS Office Detection)

I totally agree with Midas. If I may add my comments to the conversation... IMHO, Microsoft continually monitors for software installed on your PC to help further target-market their products, especially if you use an alternative product. MS Office has turned into a bloated, non-intuitive piece of g...

Re: SourceForge Outtage Starting Jan 18 2023

Over the past four months, it seems like John and the portableapps.com team cannot catch a break with hosting services for their apps. As a frequent visitor to their site and user of some of their packaged apps, John and his team do such a great job with what they offer on their site. I'm hoping tha...

Re: ACDSee Free - graphics viewer (adware)

Hey Webfork - thanks for the info. ACDSee was all the rage in the mid 1990s. I used it for image viewing, after downloading them from the various Usenet groups. Now, it's really nothing more than a distant memory, given that there's much better options available. I use FastStone Image Viewer https:/...

Re: Server upgrade

Hey Andrew,

To add to the above, I found this error: This is what the RSS button returns when I click the feed button on a page:

XML Parsing Error: mismatched tag. Expected: </link>.
Location: https://feeds.feedburner.com/pfc
Line Number 44, Column 3:

Re: Server upgrade

Hey Andrew, Great job - everything looks good so far... I found one issue: The RSS feed isn't working: http://feeds.feedburner.com/pfc. I have a customized, personal landing page that reads and aggregates all my important feeds. Since the cut-over, the TPFC feed does not return anything. If you chan...

Re: Harmony v1.00.3320 - Digital display chiming clock with 100+ chimes + alarms + reminders (Portable)

Nice piece of software with many features built into it. In fact, it's more than I would ever need :D Currently I have a physical clock that looks identical to the one in your UI and it resides on top of one of my monitors. This would be a good replacement for that but unfortunately, I use multiple ...

Re: MPad - powerful and efficient text editor

Hi... just took the portable x64 version out for a test drive... nice! I like the minimalist interface and thanks for including spell-check; it's still an important feature to me when evaluating text editors. No traces of the software left in any of the APPDATA folders and did not find anything writ...

Re: What does your XP looks like in 2022 ?

Wow... this looks awesome. Now I wish I was running XP (XP was easier to use, maintain, and harden) instead of boring Windows 10, which is much harder to control and maintain :D I would be interested in looking at other XP screenshots from the TPFC fan base and maybe, we can pick a winner! Thanks fo...

Re: Counter Control for Windows Defender

Andrew, this is an awesome find and the solution is brilliant. The issue goes back to the days when Windows Defender was introduced and was never fixed by Microsoft. It never fails; every time I start my day and get intense with my work, Windows Defender starts to scan, slowing down my PC. On each o...

Re: RIP Internet Explorer

My first encounter with Internet Explorer was IE 3 with Windows 3.11 and then Windows 95. That was back when we all had CompuServe accounts in the early-mid 1990s. In the days of IE5, 5.5, and 6, people made a boatload of money removing viruses off of computers. At that time, it seemed like every ha...
