Re: Portable time tracking app?

Grindstone got a very warm review from freewaregenius: http://www.freewaregenius.com/2010/08/26/grindstone-measure-the-time-you-spend-on-tasks/ Like many programs on that site, this one claims to be portable but its not clear if that's true or not. Just took a peak at this. Looks nice, but requires...

Re: Too many updates

Perhaps the update flag should only be triggered if the version number changes and not just the content of the entry. That's the current setting. I think the RSS feed should now reflect the new settings Webfork mentions :D If so I am happy as a clam. I was just about to say; the RSS feed definitely...

New License. Its still freeware, but only for personal, non-commercial use. Some of the included software (the SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine) is licensed under the MPL. Crashy. I was able to drag and drop new clips but not URLs with RSS feeds nor the new Skins available. Seemed to freeze a lot. Ev...

Webfork,

The versions on the main download page are all trials for the enterprise product. They're all preconfigs. use this link to get to the personal free version.

Re: Applications that are Private and Portable

You are correct when a .NET app is compiled it targets a specific framework; however, most apps are still being developed for the 2.0 framework. There is no reason to target the higher frameworks unless you are implementing some of the enterprise features (WPF, WCF, WF, Cardspace, LINQ, etc) You'll ...

Re: Applications that are Private and Portable

it has serious backward compatibility issues. As webfork points out, over the next few years the dominant Windows varieties will come with .NET preinstalled, but since Microsoft keeps coming out with new and not necessarily compatible versions All version of .NET have been backwards compatible sinc...

Re: Applications that are Private and Portable

I don't see any harm in including .NET apps if they are truly portable in all other respects. The caveat being that they are clearly marked as .NET dependent. Leave it up to the end user to decide whether or not they want to use a .NET application. Personally all the network I utilize have .NET inst...

Re: Chrome Based Browsers

Google Chrome & Chromium are the same product. Chromium is the open source product headed by Google and is where all the development occurs. Google Chrome is the end user product that Google markets and distributes. The others take the Chromium code base and either strip out features they don't agre...

So I have tested the following and added comments, with the .NET I didn't test because I don't have .NET on my test XP machine. If your application passed congratulations! Thanks for submitting, i actually have added your software to the site a little while back. their just waiting approval from the members. As they're .Net applications it may take a little convincing on 'portability' as it's a bit of a hot topic. http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?q=[@]se-&m=S...
