Re: basilisk web browser

It's kind of crazy to think that around 15 years of addon history could get wiped by the browser company who allowed it to flourish but they've burned that bridge now and are continuing with WebExtensions instead. It's really lose-lose decision. If Mozilla doesn't put away the old toys, no one's go...

Re: Bat to Exe Converter

What's the problem with ZeroNet? I visited the program homepage with Firefox Portable just now and everything works fine - I can view the program description and download it. No ZeroNet service or client installed, of course... I didn't realize a separate ZeroNet client wasn't necessary. By definit...

I'm not sure I understand what issue you're seeing. Could you walk through the steps on this?

Re: Presentation - draft site intro

I have provided a link to the ODP slideshow in the About page. Hopefully with more feedback, this will become the goto guide for folks interested in portable freeware on the Internet! This is very much a very basic draft, but thanks for the vote of confidence. I hope to have something a little more...

Re: Bat to Exe Converter

So what should we do with the entry? Because new version is out and available only from that "ZeroNet" My suggestion is that we treat it as if the program has gone offline, point to a mirror location (like softpedia), and add a quick note to the entry about ZeroNet and a link. I'd go with: NOTE: Ma...

Re: SwiftSearch

Yeah, unfortunately I learned about that long after I put up the project... I don't see a compelling reason to change it now though... I'd rather have it stay consistent. Somehow this response got past me ... Applying a non-software license to software doesn't actually have any consequences. It's l...

Re: Crow Translate (online language utility)

Great post thanks. Does this require an Internet connection? Meaning does any of it function offline, such as text-to-speech?

Presentation - draft site intro

So I put together a presentation I'd like to add to the site as part of our About page and I need your help. This is a rough draft and will likely see lots of changes, hopefully with many of the visible words being spoken in a video rather than written on the slide. I'll also try to add some some qu...

Re: PortExpert

Gave this a try since I'm always on the lookout for useful tools of this nature, but this one unfortunately adds nothing new to the table that Sysinternals' TCPView or NirSoft's many networking tools (CurrPorts, LiveTcpUdpWatch, NetworkTrafficView & IPNetInfo) don't already do, so whats the point? ...

If anyone has a Microsoft account, please report this links, which is from a pretender dev who was (until a few days ago) charging money for a free program that he didn't develop: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/screen-recorder-pro-display-window-region/9nkn36vnk55z?activetab=pivot:overviewtab Mor...

Re: ZeroNet

This is an intriguing concept I haven't tested in any way but wanted to retain for further inquiry. I've seen a few different attempts at a censorship-proof, distributed service over the years, but only a few have managed to stick around. I2P comes to mind and is evidently still around (http...

Re: DocPad - text editor

From the screenshot on that forum it looks like the user copied Docpad onto their hard drive. Docpad only works in portable mode when it detects that it's running from a portable drive. If it's on the hard drive, it will write its settings to the hard drive. There's no reason for it to be portable ...

Re: DocFetcher - File Content Indexer

Some usage notes with this program ... Large database note : So I keep pushing this program well past what it was designed for (~200 gigs) and ran out of memory again using this program. I luckily found a workaround: run two separate instances of DocFetcher, each one indexing separate areas. Althoug...
