LibreOffice Portable v5.4.4 Updated

billon on 9 Jan 2018
  • 493MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 9 Jan 2018
  • Suggested by JohnTHaller

LibreOffice is a complete productivity suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, database, drawing tool and more. Includes strong compatibility for 100s of file formats including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio etc.). The program is similar to OpenOffice, a program that it was derived from, but has added many new features and improvements.

LibreOffice Portable is a special build developed in conjunction with the publisher. A "Still" version that's more tested and stable but with fewer features/capabilities is available via the website link. On systems without Java installed, some functions such as document creation wizards and the Base database application etc. can be enabled by adding jPortable, though this is optional and can be skipped if those functions are not needed. Alternatively, X-LibreOffice is also available.

Cross platform with versions available for Mac, Linux/BSD (comes default with most distros) and supports a variety of extensions. A more stable "Still" version is available from the website link.

@zorro

You pointed to the LO 5.4 Release Notes and that's what I was referencing, here it is... bullet point 3...

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.4#Platform_Compatibility

CornHolio the Gringo on 2017-12-01 20:38

Latest version 5.4.3 works perfectly on My WIn7 system.
I have not updated any plugins, (Microsoft Visual C++) etc so it seems there was something else that caused no text in the interface (GUI).

Note: Winpenpack says You need Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package on Windows XP.

LibreOffice series 5.4 are supposed to be the last version supported by WinXP.

JohnTHaller on 2017-12-02 06:04

The required Visual C++ runtimes are included within LibreOffice Portable 5.4.3 from PortableApps.com so it will work out of the box on Windows XP.

FileOptimizer v12.20 Updated

billon on 8 Jan 2018
  • 194MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 8 Jan 2018
  • Suggested by I am Baas

FileOptimizer is a broad format file compression tool used to reduce file size without changing the quality, known as "lossless." This is done via wide variety of optimization and recompression tools and techniques. Original files are sent to the recycle bin for restoration in the event the uncompressed version is preferred. A long list of supported formats include audio/video (MP3, OGG, M4A), image (GIF, JPEG, PNG), office formats (DOCX, XLSX, ODT, PDF) and system files (DLL, EXE).

Supports drag-and-drop of files into the window or onto the program icon. Note that by default the program removes metadata for many file types. This information reduces overall file size and protects privacy but is important to some users (e.g. photographers) and file search tools.

A 64-bit version is available within the folder, the author reports the program is functional in WINE, and can be used on the command line.

Looks like version 11.40 phones home on every startup now, regardless of settings, probably trying to fetch some ads, well I'm not giving it a firewall rule so I'll be sticking with version 11.31 for the time being.

nikkho on 2017-11-26 09:27

@Special do you mean that even if ads are not shown they are loaded?

nikkho on 2017-11-26 11:15

@Special. Fixed!

@PAFuser: yeah I think we'll have to switch over to the PA version. Sigh.

I fail to see what makes FocusWriter's user interface less user-friendly than that of Q10 of WriteMonkey, the two other similar programs I can find. By the way, FocusWriter isn't stuck to full-screen either: just press F11…

AndTheWolf on 2013-06-30 16:08

Link still points to FocusWriterPortable_1.3.2.1.paf.exe

JohnTHaller on 2013-06-30 17:03

AndTheWolf - It's fixed. Some editors keep pointing to static URLs instead of the download page for some reason. So, when it's updated, the download winds up wrong.
