@webfork: Yes, that solved it. I just copied the plugin folder from the old Notepad++ to the new one. Good for me i kept a backup.

I use the following version (on XP) and see no need to update it.
If you're having problems try the old version (your problems might then be attributed to an updated OS such as Windows 7 or later, which I refuse to use, especially the buggiest of them all, Windows 10)
I see comments above about file extensions, but I've NEVER had that problem, don't those people do the "save as" button? This version has that.
When on Linux I don't need this, as it has its own text editors that are better than anything Microsoft ever issued, to start with!

"December 19 2010-- Notepad++ v5.8.6
In this new release, a minimalist package is added.
It contains only the files needed to run Notepad++ with no plugins, no themes, no autocompletion API files, no auto-updater and no localization files.
The package is much smaller and Notepad++ will run faster."

My favorite editor for multi-tabbed editing. Feature-rich.

I really wish it had a spell check feature. If it did, I would replace all of my text editors with this one. It is fast, stable, and has a small footprint.

I'm currently using TED Notepad 6.0.2 beta, and find it very fast, stable and powerful. I also don't miss the toolbars. Having learned the keyboard shortcuts for the functions I need (ignoring the functions I would likely never use), I'm quite comfortable with this app as my default editor. If I forget a shortcut, the main and context menus are always there. The absence of code folding and syntax highlighting means nothing to me, as I'm not a developer, and can easily write HTML without those features.

Using the so-called Text Filter feature, you can make TED Notepad open selected URLs, even if they aren't clickable, and that feature is also very useful for internet lookups of selected text.

So far I've only one complaint: TED's dialog boxes use a tiny font, which looks like MS Sans Serif Regular, and since my screen is high-res, sometimes the dialogs are nearly impossible to read. I had already changed the Windows dialog fonts in the registry to Tahoma Bold for visibility; it worked, and most apps comply with the new setting, but this one doesn't.

Midas on 2012-04-20 01:02

@outskirter: I had the same problem while testing the latest version (MS Sans Serif font isn't really ClearType friendly); solved with ResHack by finding all instances of 'MS Sans Serif' and replacing them with 'MS Shell Dlg'...

Was testing some Notepad alternatives the other night, and while TED Notepad is relatively small in size, it uses almost 4x the memory (hovering around 9MB). Just a FYI.

IMHO, currently the best .nfo and .diz file viewer coupled with a pretty decent text editor; NFOPad can save its settings to the registry or in an INI file.

Totally agree with Midas that this is the best .nfo / .diz viewer out there. Been using it for several years. Keep up the great work and THANKS!
