The latest version (v5.2.1) produces an exeption and refuses to start on my machine (Win 8.1 x64 without .NET & VC++ runtimes). Perhaps the system requirements changed? Nothing mentioned in the changelog.

It doesn't have functionality far in advance of other editors, but the interface is great. There are big, clear icons, themes, easy tabbed interface, and a really smooth options menu. If you think text editors are supposed to be functional rather than friendly, this might not be your cup of tea. Otherwise...

Nice. The best text compare Ive ever seen. And mainly because of the trim-left/right. |

Incidentally there's an official portable version available on the Calibre website (https://calibre-ebook.com/download_portable), which works fine and appears to be stealth. (No Trolltech keys.)

calibre-ebook.com/download_windows states that current Calibre versions are for Windows 8 and higher, and the last version to fully support Window 7 is calibre 3.48. Downloads for 3.48, including the portable installer version, are at download.calibre-ebook.com/3.48.0/. You should change the system requirements.

AndTheWolf - Although not officially supported, the current release works fine on Windows 7. PortableApps.com is testing every release for compatibility with Windows 7 as part of packaging calibre Portable. One of us will update the listing if something changes in the future. |

Looks like a great program, but I have tried for almost a year to get it to load without success. Followed every instruction, only error messages. Never loads.

@PAFuser: This program is in active development and the dev is fairly responsible if you want to drop him a note about your experiences. I've stepped away from using this program due to what I hope are some sync issues with the SimpleNote service. |
