AppAdmin v1.1.0

webfork on 14 Sep 2016
  • 342KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by klon

AppAdmin is a manager for Windows applications restrictions to prevent access to casual users or small children. Merely renaming or moving the file cannot circumvent the block. Although some applications will be immediately disabled once added, clicking "restart explorer" is necessary to enable some software restrictions.

Supports drag-and-drop of applications and, as the program modifies Windows settings, it does not need to be running to function.

Note: Later versions have become shareware (thanks Baas). Please post in forums if you have a mirror for the last freeware version.

Runs on:Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? No. The program edits the Windows registry to create program restrictions.
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch Appadmin.exe.

@ I am Baas
Shareware, that maybe the reason. Didn't see that.
Thank you for quick reply.

FYI, if anyone wants a command line tool for this type of thing, Microsoft has provided an app called filever.exe in their support tools since W2k.

HK13 on 2015-10-20 01:02

It is now 2015, Windows 10 is alive & well and my favorite mini app, 'Chaos Manager' is alive, well and working better then ever. It does what it does so well in a compact size, both the software and the UI.. Having looked at many other similar apps, I find them to take up much screen real estate. Chaos Manager is simple and perfect.

Unfortunately it's author has abandoned the website, and last time I contacted him he said he was done. This made me sad as it's software I've used for what seems like forever. But the good news is is that it's functioning better then ever, Windows 95 through Windows 10 (32 bit or 64 bit), and is in no need of change.

HK13: if you're in contact with the author, could you ask him/her to open source it? So maybe someone could pick it up and keep it going?

Nice file manager, i use it as well as Explorer++ and FreeCommander. I do, however, find Ultra Explorer a little slow to load.
I'd give it 8 out of 10

Not bad, but I prefer xplorer², which is smaller and has more features.
