WizTree v3.15 Updated

billon on 18 Oct 2017
  • 11MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 18 Oct 2017
  • Suggested by I am Baas

WizTree is a very fast disk space analyzer and search tool, scanning a single folder or your entire hard drive quickly and showing those files and folders using the most disk space. The program uses the NTFS Master File Table (MFT) feature in Windows to rapidly view files.

Note that this high-speed mode is limited to local, NTFS-formatted drives. The program must do a (much slower) scan of FAT-formatted or network drives for analysis.

Category:
System Requirements: Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the "Portable" ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch WizTree.exe or WizTree64.exe.
Similar/alternative apps: SpaceSniffer, Xinorbis
What's new?
  • "Max files" value was not being saved correctly.
  • Number of decimal places used to display sizes can now be configured in the WizTree3.ini file.
  • Fixed memory leak (memory usage also reduced).

From the dev :
"It's not possible to set the font size at the moment. You could try
using Windows text size scaling to scale everything up on your PC.

The exe doesn't have any dependencies - it should run on any version of
windows."

antibody on 2017-10-18 21:20

It's possible to tweak the display settings by editing the WizTree3.ini file (located in the same folder as the exe for the portable version)

fontsize = font size used in tree/file views
rowheight = row height used in tree/file views
showhorizontallines = set to 1 to draw horizontal grid lines in tree/file views
altrowcolors = set to 1 to use a gray background for each alternate row in tree/file views
decimalplaces = sets the number of decimal places used when displaying size values in GB/MB/KB. Default is 1

[frmWizTreeMain]
fontsize=8
rowheight=18
showhorizontallines=0
altrowcolors=0
decimalplaces=2

Note that you should close WizTree before making any changes to the WizTree3.ini file as WizTree may overwrite your settings while it's active.

@Mixture: confirmed. I just tested with the Twofish plugin. It just saves a DLL file rather than settings but other plugins likely have additional options that would not be saved locally. I'll add a note to the entry.

Mixture on 2017-01-09 18:36

Great! Now that a new and native encryption algorithm, ChaCha20, and a new password hash, Argon2, has been added in version 2.35, I changed my database settings to include the new high security features. Now, if only someone will add more native high security features to KeePass 2.xx.

webfork on 2017-01-24 01:13

@Mixture - Although ChaCha20 is listed in the release notes as an encryption algorythm, I think this is actually a random number generator. While that's part of good crypto and the program is probably more secure as a result, I wouldn't describe the 2.xx series as insecure.

CurrPorts v2.36 Updated

billon on 12 Oct 2017
  • 124KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 12 Oct 2017
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

CurrPorts displays the list of all currently opened networking ports on your local computer. For each TCP/IP and UDP port in the list, information about the process that opened the port is displayed, including the process name, full path of the process, version information of the process (product name, file description and so on), the time that the process was created and the user that created it.

In addition, CurrPorts allows you to close unwanted TCP connections, kill the process that opened the ports and save the TCP/UDP ports information to HTML file, XML file, or to tab-delimited text file. The program will automatically mark with pink suspicious ports owned by unidentified applications (applications without version information and icons).

What this tool can that Mark Russinovich's TCPView can't do, I don't understand :?

I think that TCPView is better in any form.

@Yuval M.
You should try Sysinternals applications

I like this program. I recently used it to notice some suspicious looking port activities. I was able to close the ports down and then turn them to stealth using my firewall program. Then I used this program again and everything has looked normal ever since then. So I think this program may have helped me to stop some hackers or malware. All of my own internet activities and programs work normally so I really do think this program helped me stop something bad from happening.

I've been using Don't Sleep for some time now and it works great for me. It updates frequently but I never had a problem with the many previous versions. I use it when doing routine unattended maintenance, when making large backups and downloads.

allclownsareevil on 2012-02-05 19:20

I think "Don't Sleep" should win an award for the most updated program on TPFW. :-) Works well though, thanks.

MIKLO on 2017-07-02 14:24

WOW no comments for such a long time, this is a program I have used for many years and it still works great for me even now while using Windoze 10 does just what it says and does it perfectly.
