TrueCrypt v7.1a

Midas on 26 Apr 2016

TrueCrypt creates and opens secure volumes that function like an attached drive, making it possible to move files to and from a secure place, as well as open and run. Additional security features include support for key files and hidden volumes inside regular ones (for plausible deniability) for higher security, as well as hardware acceleration and benchmark tools for speed.

Supports a range of encryption algorithms including AES, Serpent, and Twofish, as well as combinations (e.g. Serpent + Twofish) in the event that one of them is eventually cracked.

Note: This program may have unfixed security vulnerabilities.  As version 7.2 only allows the opening of TrueCrypt volumes, not their creation, we are linking to a mirrror of Version 7.1a.

Runs on: Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: None
Dependencies: Administrator rights
Stealth: ? No. Writes "LEGACY_TRUECRYPT" driver settings to the registry.
License: Open Source: TrueCrypt License Version 3.0 (donate)
How to extract:
  1. Download and launch the installer
  2. Select the Extract option to extract files to a folder of your choice
  3. Launch TrueCrypt.exe
For more information on the available options of running TrueCrypt in portable mode, read the section on Traveler Mode.

There are two TrueCrypt clones, VeraCrypt 1.0c and HaDES 1.1.

VeraCrypt seems to be still active.

HaDES seems to be a dead link.

Even the Wayback Machine (web.archive.org) has excluded the TrueCrypt/sourceforge and Truecrypt.org webpages.

@Jimmy Neutron
Uniextracting the installer works fine. Otherwise, just run the installer, agree the license, choose portable mode and be sure to uncheck all the junk (toolbars etc.) it wants you to install. I will update the entry later.

webfork on 2010-11-30 17:24

Installation instructions updated. Note that I didn't test the "install as portable" option, which might work fine.

dmg on 2011-04-02 23:43

I just tried one and it no longer appears to be stealth. The individual clocks used to store settings in the application folder as hidden files, but that no longer appears to be the case.

Read "stuck print jobs" @ http://jesusnjim.com/using-computers/stuck-print-jobs.html

Batch file that does the same is available @ http://jesusnjim.com/using-computers/flushprinters.bat

Source, binaries and installer @ http://jesusnjim.com/code/printflush.html

TenaciousD on 2014-01-24 10:59

Not bad!
The BAT file basically stops the spooling process, then deletes the contents (files) located in the system32\spool\printers directory
then starts the spool process again.

Used this program to successfully extract keys from an older backup of the Registry hive files. Followed an online guide which recommended it since it automatically tweaks the exported key file with the correct path for importing into the registry.
