What a weird random drive-by necro comment... Anyways, I still use v5.71 of this program, it works better/faster/and with less DPI issues then the newer ones surprisingly, and contains much less bloated, like mp3 meta data now... really?

But if you want to talk free vs pro, then my one main gripe with that is/was the "pro" versions were not portable, they stored the license file or whatever it was in the AppData location IIRC, I had to refund it years back because that was annoying to me.

An address to the concerned users...

The switch to the Lite and Pro editions was a very difficult decision but a necessary one, one that took years to shape up. In summary, if this switch did not take place, there would be no further development and the den4b project would cease to exist long ago.

You can read the full explanation and the reasoning behind it on the news board and the forum (https://www.den4b.com/news/1851/how-it-all-evolves-into-lite-vs-pro). That post also references an older post that highlighted some of the precursor issues 5 years earlier (https://www.den4b.com/news/438/great-and-not-so-great).

Regarding the comments that the switch occurred suddenly or secretly – that is simply not true. Such comments only demonstrate disregard and ignorance of the author. The posts referenced above illustrate how the change was unfolding over a period of at least 5 years, taking into account the feedback of the community of users. Furthermore, the change and the limitations were clearly communicated and documented in the changelog of every affected product.

If you do not wish to support developers – that is your choice. But why give out about something that you get for free. Move on to something that suits you better, as there are plenty of alternatives. For those who don’t mind, feel free to use older versions without official support.

I hope that this will shed some light on the issue and help you understand the reasons, if you wish to understand.

Take care.

@shnbwmn There have been a TON of changes that you can check out in the Softpedia changelog, but I don't know if there's any crucial updates that you're missing out on with the old version. The program was one of my favorites before the change, but since there I've mostly switched to Ant Renamer.

Thanks.

@shnbwmn,
I tried every version past 5.60 to see if upgrading was warranted. None were, so I found desktop version 5.60 and I'm staying with that.

Are there any useful new features/additions in the newer versions since 5.71 that warrant upgrading?

ok, long time since i've even bothered with looking at updating this program, but i thought of a silly solution to the 5 preset limit. if you want to get really silly it can deal with the 5 rules too. Only if you want the updated version, you can just have multiple folders of renamer. just have each folder be designated to the type of renaming yr doing. tbh im still sticking with 5.71

v6.3

WTF with these lame ppl that come to DL some freeware and always gotta SELL their product...... so if ya like another pgm ppl can decide for themselves if they wanna use this or any other pgm without some spammer selling some BS....... Im just saying :wink

v5.74

Thanks, PPotty; have now gotten portable ReNamer v5.71 -- the last non crippled, non Lite version released.

BTW, the CNet "secure download" in the link above produces the zip archive straight, not some frisky downloader...
