qBittorrent is a configurable and feature-rich file sharing client modeled as an open alternative to µTorrent. The program includes a web interface, RSS, scheduler, IP Filtering (eMule and PeerGuardian compatible), IPv6 compliance, support for all extensions (DHT, Peer Exchange, crypto, Magnet/BitComet etc.), and more. Uniquely, it includes a program lock to password-protect the interface.

The program includes torrent creation and even tracker capabilities for serving content. Note that the torrent search feature (if enabled) is not portable.

Clients are also available for other platforms (Mac, Linux, FreeBSD, OS/2) and in ~25 world languages. Alternatively, a PortableApps version is also available.

Hi, from the changelog of qbittorrent 4.2.1: (not the portableapps.com version)

FEATURE: Enable portable mode if "profile" directory exists

Anyone knows how does it work?

Qbittorrent does not support Windows XP and Vista anymore from v.4.2.0, though 'portableapps' seems not aware of that.
Please update 'System Requirements' section.

@thepiney: Same here. I've used magnet links no problem. The only time I've had errors is when the program loses access to the downloaded torrent files while it's still trying to share them (if you deleted or moved the downloaded files without deleting the torrent file). I moved from uTorrent because they started adding advertising, but there are settings tweaks to remove it.

I've used the PA version for several years at least and never had a single issue, although, I don't recall ever using magnet links.

I switched from uTorrent but don't recall why.

Such garbage software. The author is about the biggest asshole I have ever met in the development world. Seriously, if you think this is an opinion go read the issues forum. as ransom for portable mode, he's demanding people give him money. You really can't make this shit up.

I gave qbittorrent an honest try. I can't get magnet links to associate with the portable version anymore. I even tried running it in Sandboxie and manually installing a reg entry.

This app should be reported and removed from PF as it constantly spreads its files all over my computer after magnet links are associated.
IT. IS. NOT. PORTABLE. and based on what the way the dev is screaming at its users, it's becoming donation-ware.

I encourage you all to petition mods to remove this app.

@stisev: I really don't think feature bounties like what the qBitTorrent dev requested are harmful. As open source / freeware developers rarely see donations, I'd rather see requests like these than adware/bundleware.

Make no mistake, qBittorrent is basically a fad client. webfork, there was a long, long thread and the author brushed everyone off demanding money for a portable version. Seriously? A damn shame since the app is pretty decent. I want to drop uTorrent 2.2.1 since after the anniversary update it's been crashing.

The only other viable option is Tixati. :(

I (along with many others I am reading) are boycotting this app until a 100% native portable client comes out.

I know this borders on entitlement, but it really is depressing when such a wonderful torrent app can be developed and no real portable version.

If you try to use this 'portable' version with magnet links, it will open the internal app and not the portable wrapper, spreading the settings all over your computer.

I am forced to use uTorrent 2.2.1 (with portable settings) which is unfortunate since there are a few bugs and I don't want to go to the latest version.

Developer, if you're listening, please make this happen. That and the feature above: "1. No select all / deselect all feature on the window when adding torrents (like uTorrent)" is all that's left to make it a solid client.

Yes I can confirm now that qbittorrent portable works fine.

It says the data C:\Users\rawwwwr\AppData\Roaming\qBittorrent and then deletes it when the app quits.

here are the shortcomings of qbittorrent:

1. No select all / deselect all feature on the window when adding torrents (like uTorrent)

2. Not natively portable. The program nags you about updating frequently and it really sucks that you can't. There's not even a .ZIP or RAR version to download and extract the files. I am not sure if there's a technical limitation to this, but why can every other app do this via command line entry and not this app?

The only way to 'save' settings across windows installations is to use the PA version or install it in Sandboxie.

The portable package doesn't "spread files all over", it moves them to/from the locations that qBittorrent requires them to be in. qBittorent requires that its files be within LOCALAPPDATA and APPDATA to read them, as well as a handful of registry keys, so we move them in and out of there. When the app exits, they're moved back out and any pre-existing data in those locations is restored. If qBittorrent made available a better way to handle things, we'd use that.

also, I forgot-- someone should report this app as not portable. I am talking about the PA version of qbittorrent. It is badly implemented and spreads files all over the profile folders. Definitely not portable.

Tested on windows 10 pro 64bit and also in a sandbox

I agree with *stisev* that a natively portable version of qBittorrent is badly needed- data corruption happens often and manually saving all data and settings is unhandy and time-consuming.

MaximilianKohler - It's basically a self-extractor but with additional features. That allows it to do things like remove files from the last version that aren't a part of the app and will crash the new version as well if they're left there... something that sometimes happens when you unzip a new version over an old one. It ensures your settings are preserved as unzipping some apps over old ones will wipe out your settings. It also means it's a faster/smaller download than a zip, can be digitally signed so you know that no one messed with it, and lots of other things that a simple zip can't do. http://portableapps.com/about/what_is_a_portable_app#whypaf

Just remember to go to Options -> Advanced and tick Announce to all trackers otherwise it will only use the one tracker.
