WizTree v4.07 Updated

Special on 5 Dec 2021
  • 13MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 5 Dec 2021
  • Suggested by I am Baas

WizTree is a very fast disk space analyzer and search tool, scanning a single folder or your entire hard drive quickly and showing those files and folders using the most disk space. The program uses the NTFS Master File Table (MFT) feature in Windows to rapidly view files.

Note that this high-speed mode is limited to local, NTFS-formatted drives. The program must do a (much slower) scan of FAT-formatted or network drives for analysis.

Runs on:WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
License: Free for personal use/Donationware
How to extract: Download the "Portable" ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch WizTree.exe or WizTree64.exe.
Similar/alternative apps: SpaceSniffer, Xinorbis

I've posted in the forum about this issue. I'd like to know if anyone else is having this problem.

Yes, it's official site policy to conduct malware related discussions in the forums. Please do.

No idea what to tell you, 3.35 does not do this, 3.36 does... Guess we need more people to chime in here.

I'm also going to delete my comments "soon-ish" here because this is not the place to do troubleshooting, posting IPs, ect. Maybe the forums is better place for back and forth or PMs.

This now phones home (firewall will ask you if you want to allow "some" connection) with the latest release (v3.36) despite having all kind of options like "check for updates" turned off.

Similarly, this happened too with WizFile when v3.00 came out, which they then fixed in the update v3.01...;

Real mensch(en) öffnen Wiztree folders nur mit CLI, Jawhol ?...;-)

Thanks for checking, TP109, that's precisely what I meant.

TP109 2020-03-26 05:57

I looked into it a bit more. WizTree will open a folder if it's dropped on the program's shortcut or on the executable itself (wiztree.exe). It doesn't appear to work for folders dropped on the GUI.

TP109 2020-03-25 23:31

Nope. Drag and drop doesn't work with WizTree.

Midas 2020-03-25 09:53

And any of you savants can confirm if drag'n'drop works, too? Like drag a folder onto 'WizTree.exe' to analyze the former?

Blimey,...for ages, was not even aware WizTree could be launched from the CLI...:-(
Thanks for your very useful tip, @TP109 ! ...;-)
