If you change Options they are saved to the registry not the ini file. This program is not fully portable.

Teamviewer is the best tool I've seen for remotely supporting family members. It will work behind routers, and dynamic IPs without any configuration. Just have the ID and password read to you over the phone and you're connected. You can create an account with a saved list of systems so you don't have to remember or have read to you the IDs. It will show who's online at a given time. You can predefine a password on the "server" so the user doesn't have to do anything for you to get connected (useful on grandmother's computer.

As well you can configure it to allow incoming LAN connections, so you can connect directly to machines with no internet access (I find it higher performance for LAN usage than VNC).

The web site also has a smaller "Quick Support" file which you can give to users you want to help to immediately set up the "server" component.

mmm... well, I guess you can obtain the fully totally portable one on , JT

AVG 9.0 blocked TeamViewer as a phishing site.....

@JT: TeamViewer Portable is fully portable. If you read the readme.txt you should be able to see how to save settings on a stick.

best piece of software ever. really useful both over LAN and internet

legnakrad 2010-06-23 15:58

What you forget to tell to JT (and probably everybody else...) is that in the download page we don't have the typical TeamViewer Portable is only included in the Premium licenses or higher like in TV Manager or TV Msi. But then, after downloading what we 1st assumed to be a freeware soft (for personal use), we find out in the readme.txt : CAVEAT: Using TeamViewer 5 Portable requires a TeamViewer Premium or Corporate license. !!!
It still works but we can't change settings (even the language*) unless we change nosave=0 in TeamViewer.ini. But doing that makes it using the registry to save settings so it's not a portable app anymore.

note: for the language, the workaround is to remove the extra language files TeamViewer_Resource_??.dll

Pasha 2010-09-09 07:29

an even better workaround option: you do not have to remove the extra language files! just rename the language file which is automatically selected to something like: TeamViewer_Resource_??.dll.old worked for me, and i can always restore it if i want

What I do not understand of this program is if it relies on third party servers or not. If I'm using it for treating personal information, I would like something like VNC which establishes a point-to-point virtual LAN connection without intermediate server. About TeamViewer...boh?

Paul Netsaver 2010-09-21 16:22

Sorry again for the italian... on the site it is said that it needs the login to a central server managing your partners ALL your data pass through the TeamViewer central server. If you have not reserved information it's ok, oherwise...

the_watcher 2010-12-15 09:27

is this trial or not?

Redbeard 2012-01-18 16:11

You CAN save the settings, and NOT in the registry, but you must do it manually each time you change an option.
1. Ensure importsettings=1 in TeamViewer.ini to enable automatic settings import. TeamViewer.ini is in the same folder as TeamViewer.exe. (you'll only have to do this step once)
2. Change whatever settings you wish in Options
3. In Extras > Options > Advanced > Show advanced options > Export settings for TeamViewer Portable, export tv.ini into the same folder as TeamViewer.exe
Now default settings will be loaded each time you run TeamViewer. Remember to repeat the export each time you change an option.
(Thanks to Ovidiu.Zeicu for this info)

freakazoid 2012-02-10 21:19

To save space, delete all the additional languages in the ZIP file and total file size is only 16.3 MB. Huge savings!

robzuc 2012-08-09 17:24

@Redbeard I tried to export settings: I modified the .ini, changed some options, exported to "export tv.ini" in the same folder (i checked the file: it is not empty). Then I closed and reopened, but the settings were not automatically imported...

Ganamyde 2013-04-25 08:16

It is so unportable, it shouldn't even be listed on here.

guinness 2013-04-28 21:26

If you wish to discuss, please take it to the Forums. The application should be listed here.

I am Baas 2015-03-20 13:43

The version number seems to be wrong. Website says that the latest version is 10.0.39052

Checker 2015-03-20 15:54

@ I am Baas: That's strange, I had this new version with complete changelog yesterday. Maybe it was buggy and the switched back to the old version.

JohnTHaller 2015-03-20 18:39

@Checker - It appears the publisher pulled it and reverted. We switched back for the version as well.

CornHolio the Gringo 2015-05-20 21:25

Only the version can be made true Portable.
You have to do the setting:

Then its truly portable.

CornHolio the Gringo 2015-05-20 22:16

and \Data\settings\TeamViewer.ini

webfork 2015-05-23 01:57

CornHolio: That's really something for the forums.

JohnTHaller 2016-02-18 00:44

The publisher seems to have pulled the new release and is serving the 11.0.53254 release from December for both standard and portable downloads even though the main download page still shows 11.0.55321 as the current version.

JohnTHaller 2016-02-18 17:49

And now it's updated.
