so... is this app ready for spanish and french?

Ennovy 2009-09-15 06:58

The free version does not automatically switch to another Dictionaire. BUT you can use it by following this procedure:
Download ohter Dictionaires here: http://tinyspell.m6.net/#dictionaries
Close the programm and remove 100.sup en 171.lex form the tinyspell folder. Place the downloaded dictionaire in the folder and rename them to 100.sup and 171.lex. Restart TinySpell and your are ready to go.

I love this app! This is a good find.

Great Concept. AutoHotkey can also be configured to autocorrect as you type based on a list of most commonly misspelled words. You can also really easily customize the list with your own favorites. This have anything impressive above alerts?

It's really bad that it doesn't use standard hunspell core. It would be great app for me also. Without Russian dictionary it's completely useless here, in Russia.

The portable version is great. The 'installable' version should be good. I'm waiting for the 'TinySpell+' to be portable, i'd certainly pay for it.

Yes, the TinySpell+ is much better and a great program, BUT not yet portable. I am also waiting for a TinySpell+ portable and also ready to pay for it ...

This program only check typing on the fly...
Do not correct the spelling of a full or partial document.
I think this is a serious matter.

I've been using this excellent utility for many years. Love it! Unsolicited usage advice: Don't use the default beep to alert you of of spelling errors. You'll turn it off in 20 minutes. Instead, find a short, *unique*, slightly irritating sound to alert you of spell bombs. Without the unique 'blurp' sound I use, I would miss a lot of misspelled words. Spell on!

Supported languages: English (US & British), French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian.

Portuguese, although it's the 6th world language by number of speakers, isn't available. Bummer!

The Version 1.9.30 does NOT work in WIndows7/64bit .

chris 2010-12-30 14:18

it does for me - no problem with Win7 64bit Ultimate under admin rights.

Pity the plus-version doesn't run portably - I'd even pay for it.

Happy New Year to all and Thumbs Up for a great little prog!!!

great software, i used to use payware that had a similar name a few years back.

great addition.

Midas 2011-04-01 10:46

No Portuguese support yet. Will it ever? An almost essential freeware shot down by lack of scope... a shame, really. :(

In Firefox, for instance, one can freely download the corresponding spell-checking free addon that's getting updated all the time. Why not use that for a starting wordlist? Just na idea...

Midas Toucher 2011-04-01 11:10

Portuguese, although it's the 6th world language by number of speakers, isn't available. Bummer!

Yeah, but to be fair, there is a big drop off after the 5th !

Ennovy 2011-06-01 07:10

Versie 1.9.40 is for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7

Windows 9* users need to download version 1.9.31

Beeber 2011-06-01 15:43

Great app. Been using Tiny from the beginning. As Jake said, don't use the default 'beep'. I substitute the 'ding' wave...gets my attention every time.

Midas 2012-04-08 20:57

@Midas Toucher: You might be right, but still, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian come way further down that list... :)

__philippe 2014-02-08 13:38

Heeding Beeber's & Jake's advice, swapped TinySpell's default beep for a tad more spirited wave.

From my XP configuration, in \Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\, grabbed the "UtopiaCR.wav" file (5824 bytes), promptly renamed Blowfish.wav...;-)

__philippe 2014-02-12 23:57

This otherwise very handy program gets into the annoying habit of reverting to its default configuration for no obvious reason, thereby losing some personal configuration settings, such as:
- Beep sound from local wav file
- Spelling tip size
- ...
Any one else vexed by similar behaviour ?

__philippe 2014-02-25 12:26

Looks like TinySpell v1.9.51 squashed the above minor annoyances.
All together blissfully now: A-Spelling We Shall Go Again...;-)

__philippe 2014-07-16 09:15

TinySpell revision 1.9.52 released July 15th, 2014.

Version history is available

Midas 2015-11-19 14:33

... but it only mentions changes in the paid version for this release.

The freeware still provides English (American or British), French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian support only -- Hunspell compatibility is only available in the paid version.

NickR 2015-11-20 16:48

@Midas 'but it only mentions changes in the paid version for this release1'

;-) you hit the nail on the head
