Disappointed that recent updates have made this program too distracting. Can improve it by disabling annoying scrolling text animation via Options - Templates - Running Line Animation - Set Movement (for annoying file scrolling) to "Disabled". Sadly, no way to turn off the volume animation and I can't figure out how to disable the song title popping up at the top of the screen.

I've changed the filesize in this entry to reflect a full installation with one language installed.
According to the installer, the other installation options gives you these filesizes:
Normal (14.03 MB), Minimal (10.73 MB).

I love this program. It's replaced Winamp as my "tiny audio player" (with MediaMonkey filling in the role as a heavy-duty iTunes replacement). AIMP2 not only does almost everything one could ask for, it looks fantastic as well--Euphoria Lux is easily my favorite audio player skin on the market.

My only problem is that it's a bit hard to look at file informat... replaygain data and whatnot. I'm just not sure how to do it, and in Winamp all I had to do was hit the little 'i' and everything I needed to know was at my fingertips.

You are right, DevNull. Bad news.

I have discovered that while this app is portable, it is not "stealth". It leaves some entries in the registry:

I tried doing the portable install with nothing except the English version of the help file and I still go the entries above in my registry.

The last version that seemed to be totally "stealth" was v2.51.330.

One feature were XMPlay scores: gapless playback. It is implemented extremely well in XNPLay. AIMP lacks that feature completely, although it uses the same audio engine (Bass audio library) as XMPLay afaik.

Best out there. Completely portable, including playlist creation with relative paths. (relative paths for the playlists is an option that must be set in the "options" panel.)

I agree with Mark B. Apparently Portable Paul has not done any real portable installation of AIMP. I have taken every AIMP update and never lost any settings yet. I either use the portable install to a temp location or use Universal Extractor, extract all the files, shut AIMP down, copy all files over the top of what is already there, start it up, and it is as if nothing is any different. Both ways work very well. And yes, I turned off the updater plugin, I don't get any nagging, it's very easy to do.

Apparently there are people who use software without having a look at the manual, Help, list of plugins, the program folder(s) or other essentials first. These are often the same people who moan and complain. AIMP's automatic update can be disabled by disabling the updater plugin (aimp_update.dll). And there is no need to keep the plugins you don't need, is there?

By the way AIMP has a tabbed playlist interface (XMPlay hasn't), allowing you to open several playlists and folders simultaneously. And AIMP has a lot of other extras, such as a WYSIWYG skin editor, utilities etc. If you don't need them, yes in that case XMPlay is an excellent choice. And XMPlay has one big advantage: radio streams can be saved 'raw'.

I'm going back to xmplay. I love the interface and the skins but there's no way to check for updates. "IMPORTANT NOTICE YOU MUST UPGRADE" nag message is worse than adware. There is no option to disable it. You are forced to update, which is a full:download zip, extract executable, run installer, select folder, select plugins.... etc... nothing is retained or preselect based on your 4 day old still running version.

Admin/Mods, It should be noted/corrected in the Synopsis that the Converter & Recorder are now a separate/standalone download labeled AIMP Tools (same V & Build #).
Maybe a second entry should be added to reflect.

Sorry, AIMP. You're not as tiny as XMPlay, or as full-featured as Winamp. I like you very much, but you come third.

Now, the installer asks if we want to make a portable application. So, it omits creating the extensions associations or mime/types and installs all in one folder.
We should also uncheck the explorer shortcuts.

Simply the best Winamp-style audio player out there.

Really nice and fast mp3 player. Looks and sounds great and has excellent features. Makes many of the other popular players seem bloated and buggy.

AIMP has a portable option in installer. There is no need to use any tricks.

I've tried most audio players. AIMP player is simply the best. Small in size great in features and also consume less memory. Only wish the help will be in english.

Install it from the installer to portable device with portable option.
