a. I have discovered there now is a version of Kitty v0.73.2.16 in Portable Apps format (https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/kitty-portable) and
b. Bizarrely, it works perfectly!

I have been unable to upgrade Kitty since version 0.73.2.13, on W10 Pro 64-bit v1909. I get a 'This app can't run on your PC' error message. Anyone else having this issue?

@siegfried: I confirm your findings, even after adding a "configdir=" key with a relative path.

I'm not sure the program isn't portable like that, but it sure isn't stealth. In my defense, the method I mentioned was working in prior versions (see above). I posted the issue in KiTTY's forum: http://www.9bis.net/kitty/?action=forum&id=0653 ... :(

BTW, this update (and the lack of changelog thereof) is probably caused by a version and code synch with PuTTY, which was prompted by a newly found vulnerability patch:

"2015-11-07 PuTTY 0.66 released, fixing a SECURITY HOLE
PuTTY 0.66, released today, fixes a security hole in 0.65 and before: vuln-ech-overflow."

@Midas
Not true, Kitty (0.65.0.0 plain vanilla, md5: 4cce0b4f7670492fe06fcb9b673de8d7) + kitty.ini (with savemode=dir) It's not portable, It writes this:
c:\Users\AppData\Roaming\KiTTY\
c:\Users\Application Data\KiTTY\

v0.65.0.2

@Midas
Thanks for the nice tip.

I for one enjoy KiTTY's bells & whistles. BTW, another way to make it portable is to download the plain vanilla executable and, before first launch, create a 'kitty.ini' file in the same location with the following content:

[KiTTY]
savemode=dir

v0.65.0.2

0.63.0.5 is out, which seems like a major update. Is it still portable?

portableapps.com has an origianl putty implementation that works too. Yes, kitty has a few new bells and whistles added, maybe cute, but they really don't add much value for me. And not that I use it often, but taking the Help button off the form so there is no way to access help from the application seems foolish to me, not that a help file is even included anyway, but if somebody is going to fork the source, when everything is available for free anyway, why not keep the help button and help file and add to it rather than simply get rid of it?

FWIW, KiTTY is checked by softpedia and they say it's malware free:
