64bit available on download page, see https://foobar.hyv.fi/2.0/?sort=modified&dir=r for 64bit components. 32bit will not work.

Ennovy on 2023-04-26 16:12

@PAFuser: added the 64bit downloadlink, thanks.

freakazoid on 2023-06-10 00:59

PSA: For older users, use the 32-bit version of v2.0 for now.

v1.6 was 32-bit only and v2.0 has a 64-bit version. I upgraded to the 64-bit version of v2.0 and found that most of my custom components stopped working because the component does not have a 64-bit version yet.

Easiest way to get everything working again is to use the 32-bit version of v2.0 until all your favorite components have a 64-bit version.

Nice little player. The website has a page with plugins, but it's slightly misleading. The "Qmmp Plugin Pack" download directs to the player itself, and the others require building from source/installed dependencies.

Realist on 2016-10-06 16:25

Why do we another music player and that too which looks like WinAMP?

MIKLO on 2017-01-15 17:15

@Realist, I believe the more we have the better they will all get or they go away, after all competition makes the world go round. I would agree if all are the exact same then it is a waste, but coders usually try and add something more useful that the last version doesn't have. Just my thoughts. :)

Sound=music is a very subjective matter which I have heard being discussed since the "4 track" days, as the saying goes one mans junk is another mans gold... at least that's the saying. I was looking for a player with this kind of track visualisation (foobar+addon can do it too, but just isn't great as a directory player). It's very useful if you have many recordings and looking to find certain events within them. I'd consider buying pro, but the price is quite a bit too steep for an audio player. It's more expensive than Reaper, or Renoise, and those are full fledged DAWs. I'd suggest getting ocenaudio for anyone that wants some extra functionality after finding the right audioclip with the free version of this. It's a nice combo.

Thanks. Ok, two problems for me with the software.

1. There is no sound at all. No problems with all other players on my comp, but this one no sound at all.

2. If I add a folder of MP3 files it adds the files ok, but if I use the option to add a file, the interface flickers and does nothing. I try again, flickers, then after a few seconds crashes.

I`m on Win 10 64Bit.

Unfortunately, the developer does not offer any evaluation copy where you can try the feature before buying. And I already had a bad experience with a paid program that turned out to be an alpha version full of bugs
Anyway, I don't know why it is marked as freeware. Even the simple download is activated only after payment, which is very suspicious.

v1.5.160 (2016-02-09) released !

tomcat on 2022-04-29 07:10

The software hasn’t been updated since Feb 2016, which may account for this attractive player not enjoying the popularity it deserves.
Sound quality is good.
The reason I chose it is because its default skin is elegant, functional and space-sparing, with large buttons and the playlist attached below the player without non-essential additions.
You can easily create playlists (drag-and-drop supported) and change the order of their contents to whatever you like. For portability, save the playlist M3U8 files in the player’s folder.
Memory usage is less than 10 MB, quite negligible for any modern system.
The player places a lot of emphasis on being skinnable, if the user takes the trouble, which I didn’t see the need for.
The hot keys are the player’s main weakness. The default ones are not user-friendly. You can assign your own, but as they (oddly) also have effect when the player is in the background, if you type on another app while listening to music, it may interfere.

I was one of the many people begging for Songbird Portable back when it was just a "hatchling". I believe it took 1-2 years before an official portable version was made -- by that time Foobar2000 became my inseparable best mate. Sure Songbird is the new kid on the block and Speed, memory and no itunes support will probably be it's Achilles heal, but it has a lot of potential through add-ons and it's web support.

@ misan: If you klick on the little "?"-icon behind "Stealth" ...

What makes an application "stealth"?

For the purpose for this website, "stealth" means when an application is launched, used and terminated properly, it does not leave behind any entries in the registry or filesystem. Certain exceptions are permitted. For example, registry entries that are created/updated by Windows for the application (eg. MRU entries for dialog boxes, DirectX entries for DirectX-based apps), or temp files created in the official "Temp" folders are not taken into consideration. Note: "Stealth" does not mean non-traceability! In fact, it is quite unlikely you can hide your activities on a Windows machine from a capable system administrator.

Hale on 2010-05-18 03:39

I love this player so much. The only prob I have is I can't remove a bunch of songs at once. I have to delete them one by one. Not even dragging works. I switch different bands frequently so it's really a pain in the ass if I want to remove 100 bands in the list and throw another set of bands. Overall, this player still rocks.
