Others - Live USB Creator (8)

Tested out the other day to get both DBAN and then Knoppix on a USB drive and it worked very well. I was initially annoyed that the tool wasn't automatically downloading and writing: I had to let it launch a web browser to download the ISO, then direct the tool where to get it, and then start creating a USB boot drive. However, I couldn't think of a way this could be done automatically without getting on my nerves (what do you do with the ISO after it's burned - delete it? how?).

I've tested a few other programs but the sheer number and categories of free distributions was reason enough to keep this handy. Wow.

I use YUMI in conjunction with 'Command Prompt Here' and 'WGET for Windows'...

If I don't already have the relevant ISO file, I let YUMI open the respective download page, find the download link, and right-click to copy it;

Then I right-click the folder where I launched YUMI from (but any folder will work) to open a local command console and simply write "wget " and right-click again to paste the download link -- WGET will proceed to download really fast (no GUI overhead) and is intelligent enough to follow Sourceforge mirror redirectors, for example...

Point YUMI to the downloaded file and let it do its thing; when done, just delete the file if you have no use for it.

Final note: to have WGET available system wide, put the exe somewhere in your path (%WINDIR% is the easiest); options can easily be set with a 'wget.ini' placed alongside.

I've been using this instead of Unetbootin and LinuxLive USB Creator (LiLi) for the last 6 months or so. Not as pretty at LiLi but its fantastic being able to easily add multiple Linux distros and even Windows Installs onto a single flash drive.

yeah i had a 4gb pen but that program completly damaged it. i couldnt even format with any low level formater

Works great on my 8gb drive. Only problem is that persistence doesn't work with Virtual Box on W7/Vista. U can have 1 or the other but not both. Bummer. Should be OK on XP machines though.

Had some odd issues with Lili USB Creator (for some reason couldn't format a drive) that this program seemed to overcome. Good program.

Impressive application! I used it for Ubuntu, Windows 8 and Windows 7.

Does anyone know why Sardu duplicates ISOs? and is it necessary? When you download an ISO, Sardu puts it into a folder called ISO. And if you add a file manually, you put the ISO into the same folder. Logical enough... but then Sardu makes a copy of the ISO file in a subfolder called ISOLinux, which means your Sardu directory is roughly twice as big as you thought it would be. So if you download, say, the BitDefender ISO at about 370 MB, you end up with 740 megabytes of BitDefender on your disk. Any one know why?
