Dave Bee on 2019-06-15 10:40

I was just wondering what is wrong with backing up the drivers using Windows itself? That's what I've been doing for a long time. If I ever need to reinstall a driver, I just point Windows to the folder where all the drivers are backed up, and Windows will find and install the specific driver(s). Why would you even need this program at all? Make a new folder on your C drive (I find that easiest), then just run an administrator command prompt, and run the following command: dism /online /export-driver /destination:"C:\New Folder" Windows will back up your drivers, and you can then copy/cut/rename the new folder to whatever/wherever you want. Works for me.

Craunch on 2012-07-03 13:45

Midas, I've just been playing with this and ran into the problem you described. On investigation I realised that there are two type of environment variables: Text String and Expandable String. Text String variables (orange tag) will not expand contained references to other environment variables when they are used. Expandable String variables (blue tag) will expand their references when used. You can change their type by F6 or via the right-click menu. These two types seem to be a feature of how Windows now stores environment variables internally.

A few judicious type changes got my environment where I wanted it to be.

Thanks for that, Craunch. Vital info, IMHO. I'll look into it ASAP. :)

If a setting does not conform to that profile you will be presented a dialog window, asking to reapply the profile.
  • Added feature:
Due to the amount of settings in the xp-AntiSpy it get’s complicated if you look for a special one. So I added a search field which can be enabled by selecting the menu Special>Show search field. Once you enter a search term it will be searched in all setting names and the according info text for that setting. Then only the matching settings will be presented to you in the overview. Still loving this program. It worked well on Vista, and it still works great on my upgrade (yes upgrade) to XP SP3. I just recently used it to disable some unneeded stuff launching with my partition backup program. thanks.

Emka: entry updated. This is one of my favorite system programs so I was very happy to get this back online. Although it doesn't list support for it, I had no trouble using it successfully in Windows 7.

I just downloaded the newest version (XPredit 2.1.4 RC2) from http://xpredit.pcbox.gr/dload.php?action=license&license_id=1&file_id=7

I merely agreed to the license and downloaded it from the link. I did not join anything. It is an installer though.

I do not know if it is portable but it should be

Although this is a nice integrated package for the novice, if you are looking for something more powerful, I would suggest Autoruns (which shows you almost everything that autostarts with the system, including devices and services), and MJ RegWatcher (for alerting you to suspicious registry modifications). Both are more complex than APV, but also far more sophisticated and powerful.
