WinMerge is a tabbed, visual file differencing and merging tool. It's primary use is determining changes between two text files, but includes tools for folder, image, and 3-way comparison. It comes with a built-in editor with syntax highlighting, line numbers, word-wrap, synchronized scrolling, and handles a variety of file formats.

An unofficial plugin (xdocdiff) is available to enable comparison functions for the text of Word, Excel, PDF, LibreOffice, RTF, and other file formats.

64bit version from https://sourceforge.net/projects/winmerge/files/alpha/2.15.2/ can be used to replace 32 bit folder in PortableApps.com version. So far no problems with it. Renamed original file, just in case.

JohnTHaller on 2018-08-12 17:56

PAFUser: For a better experience, use WinMerge 2011 Portable. WinMerge 2011 is a continuation fork of WinMerge that is regularly updated. Our portable package includes the 32-bit and 64-bit versions and switches between them.

I didn't find the main option:
-show only differences.

It does appear to be stealth? When I first ran it, it created a 'appData/Roaming/Diffinity/diffinity.cfg' file, but if you copy that file to the portable location, delete the appdata folder and run Diffinity again, the cfg file isn't created.

This is a very useful program, but I prefer to use online services. If you are interested, then here is an online analog https://papersowl.com/free-plagiarism-checker With this, you can check the uniqueness of the text in the document or on any web page. But in Bible Analyzer, the functionality is much wider. I recommend making a choice according to your needs.

The website link for this one gives a 404 error, and the download link gives an error message saying a password is required.

The most recent blog entry on the website (dated Aug. 26th 2017) says:

"The below listed tools are no longer available as download on this website.

AD BulkCreator
TextCompare
ComboBox ApplicationLauncher

As of today, all information about these 3 tools is also no longer available on this website."

So unless there is an alternate download location for this app, I guess it's gone.

Just in case TextCompare evaporates again,
TextDiff is a worthy alternative:

I cannot open the .hlp file. Any suggestions?

__philippe on 2017-10-09 21:25

@Provy

TextDiff.hlp is a windows 3.x Help file. Under Win XP, Explorer will open it just fine.

Under Win7, however, Explorer will barf about an unsupported old file format,
but does suggest to download some sort of conversion utility.

Alternatively, TextDiff.hlp file contents could be converted (under winXP) to a PDF document.
PM me with your email if you want it.

Pendrive on 2023-06-06 10:04

The required winhlp32.exe to read the TextDiff.hlp file is available in three different versions (Win XP, 7 and 10) from https://archive.org/details/microsoft_help_viewer_hlp.
