Sigil Portable v2.1.0 Updated

lwc on 5 Apr 2024
  • 344MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 2 Apr 2024
  • Suggested by ChemZ

Cross-platform with clients for Linux, Mac and supports many languages. Sigil Portable is a wrapper version of the program and an outdated X-Sigil is also available.

...sorry, my previous comment only applies to the stable version 1.4.7 - changing "HKCU\Software\QtProject.." to "HKCU\Software\Trolltech.." in "ScribusPortable.ini" does it.
The test version (1.5.4) is stealth out of the box.

" The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of version 1.5.8. Like previous releases, work on version 1.5.8 focused mostly on bugfixes and code optimizations, the latter of which are expected to lead to reliability and speed improvements. We have also begun to prepare Scribus for using Qt6, which will make our work easier for future releases. "

I was just noting that the file left behind is located in a temp folder, which does not affect the app's portability or its stealth status. I'm not judging the program's merits or demerits (never used it), and I too think that leaving a DLL behind is not a good practice, but let's not mix things up. A bad, or even a malicious program, can still be portable.

In short, I agree it Yadabyte Subtext is portable but not stealth. Regards and happy new year!

An excellent and important utility! Using a different (local) text handler for each and every time we input text is a cognetics nightmare which TEA solves quite neatly within our present architecture.
Note: This utility uses the clipboard to move the completed file back to the original location. Anything already on the clipboard is lost in the process.

This is a great program. When I was using multiple editors to get the best of each (NotePad++, LibreOffice, and Dreamweaver), I used this frequently. Also works well with gpg4usb.

FileHandler on 2018-06-02 03:07

It works well as long as you stick to editing your text and refrain from switching to various other apps - to research something for your text etc.

It seems to rely on Alt-Tabbing back to the previously used window to transport your edited text back to where it belongs. This will only work if you had not switched to other programs in the meantime.

Simple Text Splitter as the name implies breaks up text based files (txt, log, srt etc.) into smaller files. This can be helpful for system administrators who wish to break up system logs into smaller, more manageable parts or for data analysis where importing in all the information would take too long.

@smaragdus: all fixed, thanks for that

Torb on 2018-10-12 19:01

The help links in Texter do not work and returns 404. No explanation of the features, and thus most of the features are useless since not documented.

lintalist on 2018-10-13 17:17

@Torb - well the program is over 10 years old and hasn't been updated and no doubt some webpages have changed - the source code is now at https://github.com/adampash/texter/ (where you can see it is no longer under development)

Not only site is dead long time ago, it's not stealth starting from Windows NT, saving settings in user profile, so entry must be deleted.

It's probably just a false positive, but ClamAV detects Trojan.Nota in this. Couple of other AV scanners (not big names) detect Backdoor.Win32.Celine (.zip file the program comes in was run through both Jotti's and VirusTotal).

Andrew Lee on 2007-04-14 08:13

You are getting false positive because the EXE is UPX compressed. It is a common problem. Try "upx -d xtractor.exe", then scan again.
