I was able to successfully convert a DOCX file to MOBI file for an Amazon Kindle device. All I really needed was the index and basic formatting preserved and that's what it did. Also images worked well. I'm very happy.

An excellent and important utility! Using a different (local) text handler for each and every time we input text is a cognetics nightmare which TEA solves quite neatly within our present architecture.

This is a great program. When I was using multiple editors to get the best of each (NotePad++, LibreOffice, and Dreamweaver), I used this frequently. Also works well with gpg4usb.

It works well as long as you stick to editing your text and refrain from switching to various other apps - to research something for your text etc. |
Sigil is a tabbed editor for the EPUB format commonly used in eBooks. The program includes basic formatting, customizable fonts and styles, hotkeys and spellcheck. You can generate a table of contents, embed files (audio, video, or other), edit/add metadata, rearrange or split pages, add vector (SVG) images and available "clips" for frequently entered text.
As the format is based on simple HTML, the program includes a WYSIWYG-style book vs. code view, the ability to modify cascading style sheets and additional functionality via plugins. The program can even shrink some eBooks by discarding unused media elements.
Cross-platform with clients for Linux, Mac and supports many languages. Sigil Portable is a wrapper version of the program and an outdated X-Sigil is also available.

On PortableApps (1.20 Rev. 2): |
AutoText offers in a small tooltip window saved words, texts, phrases, snippets etc. during typing in any other program and will insert the selected item directly to the cursor position. In case of unsuccessful search, Space, Return, PgUp, PgDn etc. closes the small window, so that fast and liquid typing is not disturbed. Three different search methods can be set.
In addition AutoText monitors the clipboard and saves the last X text entries of the clipboard, which can then be retrieved as well.

...sorry, my previous comment only applies to the stable version 1.4.7 - changing "HKCU\Software\QtProject.." to "HKCU\Software\Trolltech.." in "ScribusPortable.ini" does it.

@Torb - well the program is over 10 years old and hasn't been updated and no doubt some webpages have changed - the source code is now at https://github.com/adampash/texter/ (where you can see it is no longer under development) |
WinSorter is able to manipulate highlighted text by selecting text and clicking on the TrayMenu icon. Changes include converting text to upper case, lowercase, and many variations in between. Nice program but... it doesn't work with cyrillic text. Therefore the program is unusable for many people who write in cyrillic. |
Textreme is a tool for "text remodelling", allowing you to change text and modify its appearance by delete blanks or moving/insert words. Great for updating text files with lots of minor changes that would be manually tedious, the program offers a variety of string-based functions (deleting sections, inserting into a specific place, switching bits around, etc.) for text files.
There are currently nine different actions that can be performed in various ways, and actions can be cascaded in so that many changes can be made in a single pass.
Tip: Use "TextEditor="dummy\..\..\PathToYourEditor.exe" to specify an editor with relative path in Textreme.ini.
