arwwdwin.exe is a watchdog program that makes sure that RegWatcher can't be terminated by malicious software without you knowing it. It's not harmful in this case, but these kind of programs do often trigger false positives. That's a good thing, but it's up to you to decide if the program is legit or not.

only problem i run into with this wonderful app is it doesn't work for all apps.

Ruby on 2011-06-22 16:00

@Magibon

I find that RegFromApp will only capture reg writes if the app your monitoring is actually doing the writing.

Let's say your monitoring an app/installer that creates a 'Working directory' e.g. %temp%/MonitoredApp and dumps some files that now write to the registry, these writes do not get captured because the monitored app is not doing the writing.

How I find RegFromApp useful:

1. In concert with Regshot: RegFromApp will only capture writes from the program not the system.

2. Capture and Export: I use Chromium web browser and pass args on the command line to keep all files in the app directory e.g. --user-data-dir=.\
The only problem is that when I "Make Chromium my Default Browser" it doesn't transfer the command line to the registry.

By starting Chromium from/within RegFromApp as an admin I can capture these reg entries and export for editing (search and replace) with a text editor and add the command line and merge back into the registry.

  • File Shot - will catch file changes based on either timestamp, size, or CRC32/MD5 and report these changes in an HTML file

Auslogics Registry Defrag v6.3.0.5

Checker on 15 Mar 2014

Auslogics Registry Defrag defragments and compacts the Windows Registry in less than a minute. It scans through the registry to remove slack spaces, reducing the registry size and ultimately the amount of RAM the registry takes up, improving drive performance.

Note: Speed benefits on a SSD-based (flash media) installation will be minimal.

Category:
System Requirements: Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Windows registry.
Stealth: ? No
Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. The application files are located in the {app} subfolder
  3. Rename regdefrag,1.exe to regdefrag.exe and launch
What's new?
  • Added free space availability check before creating Rescue Center backups. If there is not enough free space on a disk, user has the option to abort the operation or proceed without creating a backup.
  • Fixed memory leaks, optimized code and algorithms, which improved the speed of practically every tool in the program.
  • All modules that work with hard drives were optimized to correctly process large data volumes, namely the Rescue Center will now correctly create and restore backups larger than 2 GB.
  • Made numerous corrections to language files.
  • Made numerous changes to modules; interface to make them more convenient and easier to work with.
  • Improved reports and operation results display in response to user feedback. Now this information is easier to understand.
  • Added partial Windows 8 compatibility. Full compatibility will be implemented in BoostSpeed version 5.4
  • Corrected all known bugs.
  • Corrected installer errors, optimized program installation and uninstallation.

My only experience with a registry defragger left my system unable to boot (used backup registry to fix). I'm not writing this to take a cheap shot at the makers of this app but I think a better explanation is needed on their web pages. Most of the 'bullet-point' features sound like hype (reduce size, windows=faster, performance=faster).

Not sure what "remove slack spaces" and "Eliminates structural defects in the Registry" mean... Registry cleaners, disk defraggers, contiguous blocks of data, etc ... I understand. Registry compactors that fix structural defects... I don't understand.

lautrepay on 2012-07-18 02:48

The program is freeware again, but still not portable and won't run from external or network drives.

I would be interested in hearing about alternatives to this program.

BigRin on 2010-07-12 07:30

I am also interested in a simple alternative program.
Thanks

billybob on 2010-07-12 09:24

To previous commenters: if you take a snapshot of the entire PC (every file, all registry keys, etc), and then, many days later, you want a report of everything that changed, then naturally temporary files must be created to persistently track the changes from the original snapshot. This app is not meant to be "ultra-small-USB-stick" portable. Not sure what kind of alternative would be possible. Also, if you want to see all changes, and there were 90,000+ new reg keys, it's not the fault of WhatChanged that there is so much output (Richard is right about this). You can choose to view the output in whatever program you want (and Firefox is not a giant text database viewer).

From the app's version history:
Version 1.21 - Fixed bug: In some computers, when cleaning USB devices, the USB mouse/keyboard devices were also removed, and the user had to unplug and plug them again.

Thanks all.

After starting the system later during the day, it got logged in without asking for any password. Does it mean that the prog has got a copy of the pwd when enables an automatic log in considering the fact that some startup entries were removed and a new desktop startup entry was added (as per Spybot)?

I ran 3 other major cleaner programs here on the site (Bleechbit, CCleaner, and PureRA) and this program still found more to delete. If you're using an public computer, this seems to be THE program to run before you leave.

@Allen
Those sites you linked... Well I'll let the WOT score speak for them selves

https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/quicklyuninstall.com
https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/uninstallapp.com
https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/uninstallsupport.com
https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/malwareuninstaller.com
https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/2-uninstall.com

Seems like shady sites, and I wouldn't put to much trust into them. I've also ran this app in Sandboxie and it leaves nothing behind but the ini file in the app folder, I've also ran RegFromApp along side this and nothing is saved to the registry. It is as portable as portable gets, literally you just delete the folder that this program resides in and it's gone from your system.

Your statements"So does this work for anyone on Windows 7? I've tried dropping several reg files but this app does nothing, just blank." and "I've used regedit to export some random keys to test this app but it doesn't read the stuff I export. Also when you "Open" whats the difference between SYSTEM, SOFTWARE, SAM, NTUSER.DAT, SECURITY, USERDIFF and DEFAULT?"
I'll just stick with regedit and RegSeeker. RegSeeker does things even Ccleaner & PrivaZer can't seem to do.

joby_toss on 2015-03-07 06:52

@Allen, please, you have to understand what this program does! It's a viewer for RAW windows registry files, a.k.a. HIVE files.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms724877%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
When you export your registry keys, click the "Save as type" drop-down menu and select "Registry Hive Files". You will be able to open your resulting file in RegistryViewer (then, try to open it with RegSeeker :) ).
@Special already addressed the "un-safe" google findings.
Trust me, it is a great tool!

Registry Tweaker is a powerful application that allows you to access many obscure registry tweaks easily. It provides a nice description for each tweak as well, helping less technical users understand what each one does. It also supports profiles, which allow you to apply a predefined set of tweaks automatically.
