DesktopOK v5.33 Updated

billon on 16 Jun 2018
  • 496KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 16 Jun 2018
  • Suggested by JohnW

DesktopOK contains a host of beneficial Windows interface tweaks. The program can save the current icon view by resolution and make it easy to swap between views, showing all saved view formats in a list. Other tools include basic screenshots, the ability to force-close programs, color tool, volume and more:

  • Interface tools include reducing clutter with a minimize-to-tray by right clicking on a window close button, mouse hiding and ability to hide desktop icons after a period of inactivity (click on the desktop to make them re-appear). You can even modify default icon spacing.

  • Window management tools include scrolling any window that your mouse hovers over (not just what's in focus) and alt+drag (for moving windows without having to hold your cursor over the top bar).

Category:
System Requirements: Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. In this folder, create an empty text file and name it DesktopOK.ini. Launch DesktopOK.exe or DesktopOK_x64.exe.

Possible issues:
  • The program is in German: If not automatically set to the English, click the by clicking the flag in the lower left corner of the window for any of 24 world languages.
  • It saves to AppData: If you don't create an empty text file, it writes to %APPDATA%/DesktopOK/DesktopOK.ini. If you accidentally skipped this step, you can simply move this file over to the application folder.
Similar/alternative apps: AltDrag, ICU
What's new?
  • Bug-fix: WM_DISPLAYCHANGE message is sent to all windows when the display resolution has changed.
  • Update of the language files.

I still use & really like this program now using Windoze 10. I'm anal about my Desktop icons arrangement, and this program makes it so easy to line them up just as I want. Thanks to the maker for a program that I have used for a very long time across many different operating systems. Has always been flawless for me :)

It would be even better if DesktopOK didn't force an icon rearrangement with every resolution change -- in my laptop, a lot of those are temporary, resulting from user logon or the machine coming out of sleep state before, rerouting graphics to my higher resolution external screen. After some time it's galling to have to restore icon arrangement after every such hiccup. I've gone through all settings several times but up to now have been unable to disable this behavior.

@Midas strange because I have used on laptops for a very long time and have never seen this problem, now I really curious to see if I can make happen. More to be revealed.

Lintalist v1.9.6 Updated

lintalist on 19 May 2018
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 19 May 2018
  • Suggested by lintalist

Lintalist is a context sensitive text-expander with abbreviations, shortcuts, plugins, scripts and search. It allows you to store and (incrementally) search and edit texts in bundles and paste a selected text in your active program. The text can be interactive, for example you can automatically insert the current time and date, ask for (basic) user input or make a selection from a list etc and finally it can also run a script. You can use keyboard shortcuts or abbreviations to paste the text (or run the script) without opening the search window. You can also use formatted text (html, markdown and rtf) and images.

An amazingly useful and versatile program. Many possibilities and I'm finding new uses for it all the time. Can be used effectively without any AHK knowledge, but possessing even a basic familiarity with AHK further expands its usefulness.

The program is stealth again.

@utilfreak

Thank you.

Also, QiPress triggers a User Account Control (UAC) prompt. What does it need it for?

utilfreak on 2015-06-03 16:09

@I am Baas
Thank you for your note, I wasn't aware of it as I have set UAC to the lowest level. QiPress 1.064 Build 6 will now trigger UAC only if it is running within:
a) C:\Program Files*\* OR
b) Root of a drive
This is generally required by programs that need to dynamically update their resources within those paths.

A small point...
The download is now 'pure' Windows.
Other OS files are not present.
Perhaps mod the initial blurb

Late to the Xmind party,...and yet:

Talk about BLOATED software indeed: 471MB ! fer chrissake (excuse my french)...:-(

One could draw half-decent "Mind Map" diagrams with EVE (182KB) just as well...;-)

Selecting "Hide Plus/Pro features" does nothing, it still shows the PRO features.

@davidroper

A mere seven years late, ...and counting....;-)

The 161 files included in the "tclocklight-040702-3.zip" package are mostly source modules kindly provided by the developer for the benefit of DIY hackers.

For basic execution, only the following files are required:

• TCLOCK .EXE 44544 09/07/2004 17:16 A--- tclock.exe
• TCLOCK .INI 1024 10/20/2016 15:09 A--- tclock.ini
• TCDLL~1 .TCL 48128 09/07/2004 17:16 A--- tcdll.tclock
• TCLANG .TXT 8234 06/10/2004 11:58 A--- tclang.txt
• TCMENU .TXT 477 05/09/2004 21:53 A--- tcmenu.txt

All the same, a nifty, teensy configurable clock utility, sitting pretty in WinXP system tray...;-)

IMHO, given the amount of fixes and updates and the fact that it retained portability, this entry should be updated to point to T-Clock Redux (Beta)...
