7-Zip Portable v9.20 Rev 2 Updated

webfork on 19 May 2013

7-Zip is an archive manager supporting the creation and viewing of a wide variety of different formats. Includes folder favorites, optional 2-pane view, available AES encryption, checksum calculator, file split/combine capability, and more.

7-zip is the official file archiver for the open, high-compression "7z" format that achieves higher compression than many others via LZMA algorithms. In addition, 7-Zip supports the creation of ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, and XZ files, as well as the extraction of RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB, NSIS, NTFS, FAT, VHD, MBR, APM, SquashFS, CramFS and MSLZ files.

7-Zip Portable is a wrapper from PortableApps.com and supports 32 or 64-bit automatically. Alternatively, X-7zip is also available.

Used winzip for ages, and moved to 7zip a couple of years ago. This program blows me away, does everything ive ever wanted without all the extra baggage. Got to be one of the absolute best portable freeware ever. Cant go wrong here, and no im not on their payroll....

@webfork:
Ruby had already told me that I am incorrect, 7-Zip Portable writes its vital settings to the Windows registry.
Now, either you must prove that you are correct or Ruby must prove himself or herself correct. I don't care who is correct. Just tell the entire truth about how 7-Zip Portable write its vital settings.

Ruby on 2013-02-13 23:27

@Mixture
Your initial post indicated using 7-Zip without the PAF format in which case settings are stored in the registry.

7-Zip Portable will backup any local 7-Zip registry settings which allows the portable 7-Zip (PAF) to use that registry key to R/W settings to and when finished will restore the local 7-Zip registry key backup

@Magibon

I think that key (CD File System) MIGHT be updated on restart, you wrote "created" could that be "modified".

If you export a registry key and 'Save as type' *.txt , you can then open in Notepad and see timestamps.

Magibon, would you be willing to reupload your NSIS launcher? I've got a few projects it would be perfect for.

Magibon on 2013-04-16 09:57

i gave up on trying to make my own, i realize i suck at it :)
im using a reliable launcher from here: http://portablexapps.blogspot.com/2012/07/passmark-osfmount-portable.html

Bandizip is an archive tool that supports the creation and extraction of common compression formats, as well as the specialized ZIPX format (from the makers of WinZip). Supports a customizable interface, the searching of archives by file name, file splitting, password protection, self-extracting archives, and varying levels of compression. Oh, and why is there never a change log shown for Bandizip's updates? I've even had that problem on their site.

Midas on 2013-02-28 22:45

@outskirter: check http://www.bandicam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1476

Thanks, Midas! My mistake; I kept looking in the Bandizip forum, rather than the Bandisoft announcements.

there is no "zip" file on the "download" page - only an installer that universal extractor could not process. When I ran the install, arcthemall showed up as an installed program which i promptly uninstalled. Where is the "zip" file.

Lupo73 on 2011-11-13 21:05

It is available on main webpage.. if instead you open the sourceforge page, click "ArcThemALL! Web Page..." link in Description to move to main webpage..

jrgermann on 2011-11-14 17:53

Thanks, Lupo73, for that info. Looks like the download link should point to the Sourceforge link that comes from the website page.
