YUMI v2.0.6.7 Updated

billon on 12 Jul 2019
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 11 Jul 2019
  • Suggested by webfork

YUMI (Your Universal Multiboot Installer) can be used to create a multi-boot USB flash drive containing multiple operating systems, antivirus utilities, disc cloning, diagnostic tools and more. Aside from a few distributions, all files are stored within the Multiboot folder, making for a nicely organized Multiboot Drive that can still be used for other storage purposes. YUMI uses syslinux to boot extracted distributions stored on the USB device and reverts to using grub to Boot Multiple ISO files from USB, if necessary.

YUMI works much like Universal USB Installer, except it can be used to install more than one distribution to run from your USB. Distributions can also be uninstalled.

Note: YUMI v2.x can't remove distributions previously installed with Legacy YUMI! Although no longer supported, you can still Download Legacy YUMI.

PassMark OSFMount v2.0.1001

billon on 7 Apr 2019
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 22 Mar 2018
  • Suggested by Stone Tablet

OSFMount is a collection of virtual drive tools that allows mounting local disk image files as a drive letter, RAM disks and mounting CD or DVD images (for simplicity or speed). Supported image types include IMG, DD, ISO, BIN, NRG, SDI, AFF, AFM, AFD, VMDK (used by VMware), VHD (Virtual PC) and more.

The program is ideal for machines without a CD/DVD drive and, as most images are bit-for-bit copies of disk partitions, many programs will treat them as the real thing, enabling programs that require a program disc. For disk images, the program can give access to these files without booting or other required visualization software. RAM disks have a variety of uses including high speed caches, programs with frequent/intense disk reads/writes and some database applications.

Command line tools are also included.

Note: The developer warns: "it is recommended that 64-bit Windows is used when large disk image files are to be mounted."

Two caveats: The directory path where the tool is installed to may not contain spaces (or you'll end up with a "mount failed" when VCDControlTool tries to actually mount an ISO). And 2nd, using the tool with Vista will work as admin only and you'll see the freshly mounted drive only from within an admin CMD.EXE command line (or from within VCDControlTool.exe's built-in file browser), but not from Vista's Windows Explorer.
-Anyone else with a 1) portable, 2) free and 3) Vista/Win7 compatible ISO-mounting utility?

aeris on 2010-07-30 10:58

bitbuerster: Any external file system on Windows must be part of Installable File System chain in order to be visible as a drive, thus by design it must be installed -> cannot be portable.

Even this method here "installs", but uses a pre-loaded driver to fool the system. Functionality of any alternative program would be the same, as it would have to access the same driver in the same fashion.

It's not working: I try to open a file in it, and nothing happens

outskirter on 2014-02-15 15:15

It works for me, Jebug. Are you sure the image file you're trying to open contains EXIF data? Some image files either don't have any to begin with, or have been modified in an image editor that has destroyed the EXIF data when saving the modified file. It happened to me a number of times until I switched to a different editor.

Besides, most good image viewers and editors can display EXIF data, so a separate tool isn't usually necessary.

I do not disagree, I still use Excel 2003, and it took some work to get it to work correctly on Windows 10 - 64 bit. If program is all you need and works, great. SE-Explorer zip contains SE-MediaPlayer, does not work. Context menu limited to SE-Explorer list, unlike FreeCommanderXE, etc. which include context items added to Windows menu. Future development might have changed this.

Tried it today on WinXP SP3 PC with a Kingston 4 GB USB flash drive and a Linux image for eeePC. The experience was horrible. I choose to not create a virtual disk (in belief that all would be done in RAM). After the Linux image start execution my brand new USB was corrupted, no data, not readable in Windows. After formatting it reports only 0.9 GB instead of 4 GB. I have rescued it using some low level utility and make an experiment in order to know is the corruption caused by MobaLiveCD v2.1 or not. After the booted image reports disk writing immediately USB stick LED indicates a writing operation and the stick became corrupted again. What if someone starts such utility from HDD? Did my experience mean that this tool can corrupt HDD too?

mp4UI is a utility for creating MP4 video files. MP4 files are high-compression ISO-compliant MPEG-4 streams with AAC audio. You are able to edit file/track properties and metadata, as well as import/export individual audio/video tracks.

Category:
System Requirements: Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Windows registry. But given the nature of the application, I think it can be accepted as portable.
License: GPL and MPL 1.1
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer and install to the default folder C:\Program Files\mp4UI.
  2. Copy all files (except Uninstaller.exe) into a folder of your choice.
  3. Uninstall the program.
  4. Launch mp4UI.exe.

Synopsis is misleading -
You cannot actually view i.e. Watch the mp4 video, with this useful utility.
