The file vlcrc in the 'portable' folder has this entry :

[skins2] # Skinnable Interface
# Skin to use (string)
skins2-last=vlc_deepdark.vlt

VLC seems to accept relative paths (here at least). I have vlc_deepdark.vlt in the same directory as vlc.exe and it works OK.

Also with 3.0.0, no files/dirs left anywhere else. But creates a QT reg key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\QtProject\OrganizationDefaults\FileDialog

I run vlc from a NSIS exe which deletes that key after VLC exits.

zorro on 2018-02-12 13:18

..at least with "native skin" there's no QT-Key left behind - I just checked it. When activating alternative skins, the Key appears but can be handled with a batch or portable starter like gbrao mentioned.

"Download the ZIP-Package" in description is a bit misleading: fuzzing around with the scripted download-button, you won't find a ZIP. At least I didn't find it.
Simpler: select "our FTP archive" under "older versions" (lefthand, underneath the small slideshow) - there you also find the newest versions as ZIP.

CCleaner v5.42.6495 Updated

  • Released on 23 Apr 2018
  • Suggested by Ennovy

CCleaner is a feature-rich system optimization and privacy tool. The program cleans unused, temporary and log files from your system, as well as traces of online activities such as Internet history and flash cookies. The program contains startup controls for Windows, major internet browsers and context menu entries. Includes a separate registry cleaner, duplicate search, system restore tool and can wipe both deleted files and drive free space for security.

A 64-bit version is available (within the folder). Monitoring functions are only available in the pro version.

An unofficial set of community developed cleaning rules can be found here however it should be noted that many of these rules are alpha and the developers will not provide support for these rules, a thread in the users forum is dedicated to supporting the add-on rules.

Alternatively, ccPortable is also available.

I've been using PSPad for a number of years now and really like it. I find it much easier to configure and less complicated to use than Notepad++, its closest competitor. Also, it is still very much in development. Latest version, as of 12 Sep 2012 is V4.5.7 (2449) released 22 Aug 2012. It is my go-to text editor for everything.
There are a few annoying things with it however. It comes with 27 pre-installed languages which can be hidden but not uninstalled and there are only 5 slots for custom languages. I think that most people would not have a problem with that since the installed languages are the most popular but if you work in a shop using more obscure languages, you might be out of luck.

Shadeclan on 2012-09-14 13:59

I figured out how to uninstall the user-chosen (custom) languages but it takes a little work.
1: Open PSPad.ini (if you opened it with PSPad or if PSPad is running, save it as something else).
2: Delete the UserHighLighterName# value / data pair where the language is listed (the crosshatch is either null or a number between 1 and 4).
3: Delete the language key and all value / data pairs appertaining to it.
4: If PSPad is running, close it - then replace the PSPad.ini file with your changes. Voila! Your user-selected language slot is ready for another language!
I have posted a request to add a mechanism to do this automatically on the PSPad forum which is very active and the author of the software posts often - not what you'd expect from "dead" software.
BTW: Be cautious about using the installer - it seems to have had some problems. Use the zip file instead and unpack the files to a folder of your choice.

If it's ok, I'd just like to make a few more comments:
Viniciusban writes that PSPad has no comment-out tool. I don't know if that was true when he posted, but it has one now:
Format menu / Add/Remove Comment.

Webfork writes that it has trouble handling Very Large Files (VLF). In my experience, there are only a very few editors that can handle VLFs without absorbing all available RAM and none of them (with the possible exception of UltraEdit) is as full-featured as PSPad IMHO. If I must view / edit a VLF, I always use HiEditor from WinASM.net as it is made specifically to work on VLFs without hosing the computer. Unfortunately, it isn't offered on PortableFreeware.com but it is completely portable, writes all settings to an INI file and is very fast.

Tom mentions that the "stable" version is 4.5.4. Currently it is 4.5.6 and was uploaded about 11 months ago. Beta version, available from the forum and updated August 2012, is very stable - if the latest version is wanted, grab it from there.

PSPad has its problems but they all do - that's why there isn't just a single text editor that everybody uses. While Notepad++ is (undeniably) the most popular text editor for programmers, I find its interface somewhat obscure and its learning curve a bit too steep to make it useful to me. PSPad's interface is much cleaner and simpler and, if I don't use it for months at a time, I can come back to it without worrying about relearning anything - that's why PSPad is my text editor of choice.

ClamWin Portable v0.99.4 Updated

billon on 15 Apr 2018

ClamAV is a virus and spyware scanner whose database is constantly maintained by a group of volunteers and updates are always available for free. Note that the program does not contain an on-access real-time scanner; you must manually scan a file in order to detect malware.

ClamWin Portable is a portable wrapper for ClamWin and can be modified to automatically update virus database periodically or during startup.

ClamWin v0.98.6 released: http://www.clamwin.com/content/view/245/1/

This release updates ClamAV scanning engine to the latest version and brings following improvements:
* Bug fixes in detection of files produced by upx, upack and mew packagers
* Other bug fixes and feature improvements

Download the latest version here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamwin/files/clamwin/0.98.6/

Midas on 2015-05-16 21:13

Please note that, for updating purposes, you needn't download the full 100MB+ ClamWin package.

Just go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamwin/files/clamwin/, find the latest version folder and download the clamwin-0.9x.x-setup-nodb.exe, which is only about 8MB -- after (Uni)extracting, you'll find all the files you need for updating in the '{app}\bin' folder...

From v4.38
Added support for [SIVDEF.ini] which can be used to provide defaults for configuration parameters that are not already present in the registry. By default SIV will save these defaults to the registry unless -NOSIVREG is selected. Note that when SIV is run from a DVD/CD or Removable Drive (USB Flash Drive) -NOSIVREG is the default.
