I have tried and used several search apps before and was not very impressed but as soon as I saw that this product was from NirSoft I knew I had to try it. NirSoft makes so many great apps that I use a lot, its difficult to say something new about them due to the fact that just about everything they make works great and is pretty awesome overall. One thing is 4sure the native Micro$oft search engine is close to worthless, so just about anything will be an improvement.

Works well. Found several errors in some junky MP3s I had, although MP3val ( was able to actually fix them. This program of course will test more types of files.

@Kermode: Cathy can handle different drives on the same drive letter; however if you catalog on (F:), and later plugin your drive, while (F:) is being used; and you get the drive letter (G:), the database cannot be refreshed.

SteveJ on 2011-04-03 00:06

Simple little program, but unfortunate doesn't support unicode, so if you have any files w/ foreign language or other special characters, they'll get cataloged as "?" for any unicode character.

BPBible Portable v0.5.2

Midas on 6 Apr 2015
  • 24MB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by gp_hbk

BPBible is a free, flexible Bible Study tool designed for ease of use. The program has many of the features you would expect including bible, commentary, and dictionary support, search, scripture tooltips, etc. BPBible uses a proximity-based search, rather than just a verse-based search. This means that a search can cross-verse boundaries, giving a more natural search. It also supports regular expressions and phrases.

BPBible can read many modules (the above program size is without any modules installed). The main module repository is the CrossWire SWORD Modules repository.

System Requirements: Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder
License: GPL
How to extract: Download the self-extracting EXE to a folder of your choice. Launch BPBiblePortable.exe.
Similar/alternative apps: Bible Analyzer, theWord
What's new? Improvements:
  • The display of Strong's Number / morphology information for a book has been improved:
    - It is possible to have the information for a particular word only show on hover or on click rather than showing all the time.
    - It now highlights all the other places in the current window where the original language word currently being hovered over is used.
  • The presentation of text in the version comparison window has been improved.
  • It is now possible to turn off the orange reference bar at the top right of the Bible window (it will default to off). This was because it would shadow too much of the text.
  • The layout and typography of the Bible text has been improved.
Bug fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where the error message would never go away if an invalid reference was entered in the quick selector (e.g. John 50:1).
  • Fixed a bug that prevented daily devotionals from opening correctly in the Chinese locale.
  • Fixed a bug where in some cases footnotes and headings would never appear.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that scriptural tooltips would not work when in column mode.
  • Made handling of the OSIS tag in some Bibles and other books handle more cases.
  • Removed the tooltip from the search textbox to prevent it from obscuring search text.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that NT-only books would continue to show "Loading..." if Genesis 1:1 was displayed.
  • Made line breaks in Robinson work correctly.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that comments on verses with discontinuous ranges could
    cause an error.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that books in a Right to Left script were being shown Left to Right in the parallel table in the version comparison window.
  • Fixed a bug which caused crashes when changing fonts or display options after changing the current language.
  • Fixed a bug preventing the search index from being built with the latest version of the KJV.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that books containing text in a non-English language would not display anything in column view.
