The portable x64 version ( is available for download.

Mithril on 2016-03-27 20:53

Well, i found the solution myself. Don't know if this option is new or not but its the first time i noticed. So, when dragging files into another window or tab in Q-dir, at the bottom it says "Start drop in new process"! (and recycle bin and email aswell) ha! and just drop it on this button.. nothing will freez! magic :) Thanks anyway folks.
Q-dir is great.

The Q-Dir 64 installer 6.47 is not installing, last time there was also a problem with the 64 installer. They should be checking first before releasing the installer.

PassMark OSFMount v2.0.1000 Updated

billon on 9 Mar 2018
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 8 Mar 2018
  • Suggested by Stone Tablet

OSFMount is a collection of virtual drive tools that allows mounting local disk image files as a drive letter, RAM disks and mounting CD or DVD images (for simplicity or speed). Supported image types include IMG, DD, ISO, BIN, NRG, SDI, AFF, AFM, AFD, VMDK (used by VMware), VHD (Virtual PC) and more.

The program is ideal for machines without a CD/DVD drive and, as most images are bit-for-bit copies of disk partitions, many programs will treat them as the real thing, enabling programs that require a program disc. For disk images, the program can give access to these files without booting or other required visualization software. RAM disks have a variety of uses including high speed caches, programs with frequent/intense disk reads/writes and some database applications.

Command line tools are also included.

Note: The developer warns: "it is recommended that 64-bit Windows is used when large disk image files are to be mounted."

System Requirements: Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: None
Dependencies: Administrator rights
Stealth: ? No. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_OSFMOUNT

Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer and extract to a temporary folder
  2. Move the files in {app} to a folder of your choice
  3. Launch OSFMount.exe
Similar/alternative apps: Portable WinCDEmu, DiskInternals Linux Reader
What's new?
  • Compiled with Visual Studio 2017 and Driver Built using WinDDK 10. Consequence of this is that the minimum OS required is now Windows 7 SP1 and we are longer supporting older operating systems XP & Vista.
  • Dramatic speed improvements for blank RAM disks. Speed improvements are a result of:
    • New compiler with better code optimization;
    • Forcing the RAM drive to be held in physical RAM (if free space is available on initial mounting). So no swapping to disk. Making it more important than ever to make sure you have sufficient free RAM available;
    • Rewrite of the device driver code to remove overheads in the handling of I/O request packets (IRPs), which read and write data from the RAM drive.
  • At the time of this release, we believe this is the fastest RAM drive software available. Some examples of the speed increases compared to the previous release are 290% faster for 4K IOPS reads and 57% faster linear reads.
  • Updated EWF library to libewf-20160424.

@freakazoid: CDmage is ancient, I'm surprised someone even uses it anymore... :)

skall on 2015-02-23 10:21

whenever i try to mount an image (different formats), the message 'wrong parameter' appears and the new drive is not selectable? i am using the 64bit version and have admin rights.

any hints what might cause this?

i might be wrong, but it seems like this is the only up to date portable virtual cdrom software for win8.1?

Portable Reviewer on 2015-09-15 12:36

@Midas CDmage works like a charm unlike PassMark OSFMount despite "being ancient". Nothing ancient about it. PassMark OSFMount couldn't detect my image file properly as @freakazoid experienced. In fact very few free portable mount tools could handle my image file properly. I'm surprised you don't use CDmage to mount......

@bzl333 weel, you have to bear criticism if you want to improve! (unkind criticism is another matter)
Calibre is "huge" (maybe it have to be like that, it's not a criticism, it's just a pity!), and I too don't like at all its way to make its own library (I have to put there only books I want to convert, and remove them, not a user friendly behaviour). It's a little too complicated, but it does its job well!
For me it's a must-have but also a could-be-better!! :-)

donald on 2015-07-24 19:38

Per CALIBRE Version: 2.33.0 beyond version 1.48x CALIBRE no longer supports XP.

Incidentally there's an official portable version available on the Calibre website (, which works fine and appears to be stealth. (No Trolltech keys.)

I will attempt to post on application website but ...
"Always start minimized (To Tray)" option does not work.

I have not seen changes occur to the configuration file (AutoHideDesktopIcons.ini) for this setting.

I will also ask about command line option to start minimized.

donald on 2011-09-22 00:45

Please note the immediate response of the developer.

This is a very nice and handy piece of software from a very prolific developer.

I have only seen first rate software from this developer.

freakazoid on 2013-12-02 00:03

Neat little app. Uses around 1.0 - 1.5MB RAM. GUI is a little ugly like all SoftwareOK apps, but you'll probably want to start this in the system tray and forget it! :)

I've been using this program for so long I didn't realize how dependent on it I'd become. I had to use the default registry program that comes with Windows and found it very cumbersome. If you work with the registry, you probably need this.
