@bzl333 weel, you have to bear criticism if you want to improve! (unkind criticism is another matter)
Calibre is "huge" (maybe it have to be like that, it's not a criticism, it's just a pity!), and I too don't like at all its way to make its own library (I have to put there only books I want to convert, and remove them, not a user friendly behaviour). It's a little too complicated, but it does its job well!
For me it's a must-have but also a could-be-better!! :-)

donald on 2015-07-24 19:38

Per CALIBRE Version: 2.33.0 beyond version 1.48x CALIBRE no longer supports XP.
Download XP Compatible from http://download.calibre-ebook.com/1.html

olliebean on 2018-02-24 08:29

Incidentally there's an official portable version available on the Calibre website (https://calibre-ebook.com/download_portable), which works fine and appears to be stealth. (No Trolltech keys.)

RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) v0.6.1 Updated

billon on 15 Oct 2018
  • 5MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 15 Oct 2018
  • Suggested by ashghost

RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) presents a before-and-after image compression view that allows you to reduce file size of an image into JPG, PNG, or GIF format. Includes optional metadata removal, batch operations, compression to a target file size, transparency options, and other common editing functions (flip, rotate, zoom, pan). Notable versus similar software in the ability to gradually reduce the available colors one-by-one (7, 8, 9, 10...), not just milestones of 16, 32, 64, etc.

The program is also available as a plugin for XnView, GIMP, or Irfanview (see website).

Functional in Linux using Wine. Many of the official entries here on PortableFreeware have used RIOT for compression. Note that the installer version of this program is considered adware.

Category:
System Requirements: Win2K / WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract:
  1. Download the "Portable version" ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Create two empty text files: Riot.ini and Riot-external-tools.ini in that folder
  3. Launch Riot.exe
Similar/alternative apps: FileOptimizer
What's new? Fixed:
  • A bug in batch mode where in certain conditions optimized files don’t get written.
  • Memory leak when opening the batch window, which also caused Access Violation in host applications if used as plugin.
  • Issue with saving of zoom factor.
  • Default batch window size not showing Settings button in certain situations.
  • Compress to Size button not always enabled when needed.
  • Minor UI fixes.
Removed:
  • Feature to toggle “Report file size changes” from batch settings. It is on by default.
  • Menu item for Help Context. Docs will be moved to the website.

Well, i found the solution myself. Don't know if this option is new or not but its the first time i noticed. So, when dragging files into another window or tab in Q-dir, at the bottom it says "Start drop in new process"! (and recycle bin and email aswell) ha! and just drop it on this button.. nothing will freez! magic :) Thanks anyway folks.
Q-dir is great.

penthe on 2016-12-30 15:28

The Q-Dir 64 installer 6.47 is not installing, last time there was also a problem with the 64 installer. They should be checking first before releasing the installer.

starshakur on 2018-05-05 15:17

Can't recommend Q-Dir to anyone, freezes while copying, Q-Dir windows turns black, crashes. Windows 10 64-Bit, tried Q-Dir 32-Bit & 64-Bit, tried the PortableApps version, all of them buggy as hell. That*s probably the reason why the developer frequently updates it. 2 years back Mithril wrote about something that's still happening.

Time to start looking for an alternative, till then i'll use Windows Explorer.

@hamasaki, To save notes to DropBox , use the Export function, and Export to your Dropbox location.

Cornflower on 2015-01-02 21:37

Printing! I don't know where I saw it, but to Print from Mempad, Export (Page, Node, or Structure), then in the dialogue box, tick "Open the file" and "with program:" and type in notepad.exe /p (or as I do, ted.exe /p -- see ted.exe at http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=858)

hamasaki on 2015-05-01 15:25

@Cornflower, I`ve tried that but when you save in MemPad it doesn`t update the dropbox file, you have to export it again. No good.

I will attempt to post on application website but ...
"Always start minimized (To Tray)" option does not work.

I have not seen changes occur to the configuration file (AutoHideDesktopIcons.ini) for this setting.

I will also ask about command line option to start minimized.

donald on 2011-09-22 00:45

Please note the immediate response of the developer.

This is a very nice and handy piece of software from a very prolific developer.

I have only seen first rate software from this developer.

freakazoid on 2013-12-02 00:03

Neat little app. Uses around 1.0 - 1.5MB RAM. GUI is a little ugly like all SoftwareOK apps, but you'll probably want to start this in the system tray and forget it! :)
