SpyMe Tools v1.5.0

Andrew Lee on 12 Feb 2013
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Suggested by JohnW

SpyMe Tools helps detect changes to the filesystem and registry by taking "before" and "after" snapshots of the system and write them to dump files. The content of these dump files can be visually displayed, or two of them can be compared for differences to determine what has changed. SpyMe Tools also includes a real-time registry monitor that you can use to determine the registry access characteristics of any application.

Category:
System Requirements: Win95 / Win98 / WinME / WinNT / Win2K / WinXP
Writes settings to: Application folder

License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Create an empty file called 'config.ini' and paste:

I gave this app a shot, but I don't think I will be replacing RegShot anytime soon. Problem is SpyMe Tools only work with either the registry or the filesystem at any one time, not both at the same time. In addition, the diff view, though pretty, is not as concise and functional as RegShot's text/HTML output.

it's a hidden spyware in a spyware software detection????

"madchook.dll is a library file that is responsible for implementing main parasite functions and running its destructive payload. The madchook.dll file cannot run by itself and therefore needs to be loaded with the help of some executable files. However, certain parasites reconfigures the operating system or installs madchook.dll as a plugin, so that the system or certain applications automatically load it on startup..."

@papoo: Software that can be used in legitimate applications can also be used in malware. This is why the author of the madCHook.dll stopped making it available to anyone:

Midas on 2010-10-04 23:29

The extraction instructions above don't seem to work with the latest Universal Extractor, but the version I downloaded (1.2.4.10) is portable by default if you copy the install folder elsewhere before running, as it keeps its settings in a 'profiles' folder it creates inside the application main folder.

That folder size is initially 8 990 228 Bytes, but this is mostly due to the uses of the Qt framework, which bids well for its future multi-platform compatibility. With UPX applied to the exe and dlls, it can be decreased to around half the initial size.

It shows a donate nag dialog on exit, but it can be disabled.

It didn't offer an hibernate option on my laptop, although that option is enabled and is detected by other utilities, which is a deal breaker for me (I vouch for Shutter; see above).

daren_rupert on 2010-10-05 11:40

@Midas did you enable hibernation via "powercfg -h on" as administrator? It worked perfectly for me and now TimeComX shows hibernation as well as sleep mode.

Although it looks somewhat dated it works well. Unlike many tools of this type, file paths can be passed through the command line and through other apps. I have this setup as a tool in FreeCommander to empty directories quickly and easily. Be careful with the computer icon. It's meant for deleting an edited folder list. If it's clicked after scanning, even with the test only boxed checked, it will immediately delete every folder listed!
