Windows Registry Recovery v3.1.2 Updated

Ennovy on 14 Feb 2024
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 14 Feb 2024
  • Suggested by AlephX

Windows Registry Recovery allows to directly read files containing Windows registry hives and extract many useful information about the configuration and windows installation settings of the host machine.

Note that the program is not simply a registry editor: it works with other tools, including exported keys. It’s useful for seeing registry issues, sandboxing tools, and diagnostics. To your own computer's registry files, open a NTUSER.DAT system file but keep in mind that these are usually hidden by Windows to avoid accidental deletion.

Hi guys. I am a developer of this free tool. Let me clarify the 'hard drive' recovery. The software is able to restore accidentally deleted files from built-in hard disk drives as long as two the following conditions are met:

1. The file was deleted recently and no writing was made on the volume after that

2. Follows from 1. If you delete a file from a system volume (e.g. C:\), there are little chances to restore it because the OS is constantly writing on this volume (logs, registry branches, etc).

Excellent product. Recovered two files from flash memory. Simple and efficient, and no installation

ADRC Data Recovery Tools v1.1

Note: ADRC Data Recovery Tools has the annoying habit of opening its user guide on the web in the web browser on startup. This behaviour cannot be disabled. It is not as stealthy as phoning home without your knowledge, but can be irritating.

It doesn't produce a bit-stream copy (forensic safe). I restored a forensic safe image of a drive and then create an image with this software. I computed the hash values for the images, they don't match. I am albeit leary of this.

clement on 2010-07-25 10:07

I think to produce a forensic copy, you will need to connect the drive to a write block device. You can not use software this way to produce a forensic image.

dany on 2011-11-30 22:43

Note 2: apart from being irritating, it kinda defies the whole purpose of data recovery...

Pandora Recovery v1.4

  • 4MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on
  • Suggested by Andrew Lee

Pandora Recovery helps to recover permanently deleted files that cannot be found in the Recycle Bin. The program works with NTFS, NTFS5 and NTFS/EFS partitions. You can preview deleted files of certain type (images and text files) without performing recovery. A deep cluster scan mode is also available that is able to recover files whose MFT record has been overwritten, or when the file allocation table is missing or corrupted. In addition, Pandora Recovery supports recovery of archived, hidden, system, sparse, encrypted and compressed files, as well as ADS (Alternate Data Streams).

The program will ask you to fill up a survey upon exit when you run it for the first time, which you can skip by clicking the "Close" button.

Note: Latest version of this program is ad-supported and has not been tested for portability. A mirror for the 1.4 version has been contributed post in forums (thanks NickR).

MultiPar v1.3.2.9

Andrew Lee on 3 Sep 2023
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 30 Aug 2023
  • Suggested by MarkyMark

MultiPar helps protect backups and transfers with error detection and recovery. The program looks at information from any number of files and folders to function as insurance against data loss. The program generates companion "PAR" files that are built from a percentage of the originals, using more space for greater protection (e.g. 10% of the original for already safe methods, 50% for frequent failures).

The program has a wide variety of customizations including format, processor usage, and various other tools available to the standard PAR format. For backups, it can also choose PAR size by available free space (e.g. saving a 3 gig file to a 4.7 gig DVD will mean generating a 1.7 gig PAR file).

Functional in Linux/Mac via WINE. The program supports multi-threading, multiple processors, can recurse subfolders, and functions with standard formats including PAR, PAR2, and (experimental) PAR3 formats.

From their website: R-Undelete run in the free Home mode has no limitations for recovery from FAT partitions and also allows you to evaluate how the software recovers lost files from the NTFS file system, for which it has a limitation to recover files larger than 64KB. [filelist] can be previewed to estimate recovery chances before you upgrade the Home version for recovery from NTFS partitions

Seems that recovery from NTFS costs money and thus makes this application almost useless today.

AdrianK_IT on 2012-05-05 13:30

This is one of the NirSoft utilities, and trustworthy. It is flagged as malware as it clearly can be used for malicious reasons ie extract passwords for nefarious purposes. However, it can also be used for good reasons ie extract passwords for recovery purposes etc!
I have learnt to temporarily disable 'real time protection' in AV software when downloading/moving/using these utilities.
I also use them as a simple test of AV software effectiveness; if it doesn't pick up these utilities as potentially malicious, then the AV software is clearly useless!

I'm a bit irritated by this, and a number of other recent programs, where the '64-bit' version downloads a zip file with 'x64' in the filename, however the executable contained within doesn't have 'x64' in the filename, but has the same name as the 32-bit version. Is the executable file within 32-bit, or 64-bit?

dany on 2012-01-23 18:09

@AdrianK_IT
64-bit. Unless the developer screwed up when uploading the latest package :P
If you're unsure, then use Process Explorer and under View -> Columns make sure Image Type is checked. It will show you the bitness of an application.
Another alternative is GNUWin's file utility at http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnuwin32/files/file/5.03/
I'm not sure about portability though (Cygwin stuff...) and am currently not in the position to test.

CyberShredder v1.12

CyberShredder is an easy to use, drag-and-drop way to delete files and folders from your computer permanently. While normal file deletion remove a file's directory entry and allocation table information, the actual disk clusters that contained the file's data remains intact on your hard disk and can be recovered. CyberShredder overwrites the space occupied from a file with random data and then erases the file, so recovery tools cannot recover it.

Although the "very quick" shred should be more than adequate for most users, there are multi-pass methods available that overwrite the file multiple times.

Warning: Some users have reported issues when wiping directories with non-English characters in them.

I had precisely the same issue as hamasaki above - tried to drag and drop a folder that contained asian characters in its name and, to my horror, found Cybershredder began a rampage through a completely unrelated area of my hard drive.

From what I can tell, and this tallies with hamasaki's experience *if* he had placed the cybershredder.exe in 'program files', the glitch redirects the shred request to contents of the the folder one level above the folder in which cybershredder.exe is placed.

No idea why this happens, but be warned!
