ActiveXHelper allows you to view essential information about ActiveX components installed on your computer. You can view the entire and very large list of ActiveX components by loading it from the registry key (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID) or alternatively display only the ActiveX components that you specify.
In addition, you can temporarily disable specific ActiveX components so they cannot be used by any software until you enable them again.

xp-AntiSpy is allows you to easily enable/disable usually unnecessary or undesirable Windows features (e.g. Messenger, Media Player's automatic codec download, language bar (ctfmon.exe), etc.). As the name suggests, the program was originally focused on preventing privacy-sensitive elements, but has expanded to many others, including enabling hidden features like a command-line prompt in context menu and an increase in the maximum number of half-opened TCP connections (helpful for P2P applications).

@anoncow: yes, both write to the registry. Seconfig is a bit more strict in some areas, while xp-Antispy has a little more flexibility in its controls.

Just heard about this program from Security Now podcast #564. Since both download links were dead the co-host mirrored the version [1] from Snapfiles.com on his own site for people to download.

@Specular: the problem here might be the sudden popularity -- here's the message I get when trying to download from the homepage: "Error (429) This account's links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!"...

@Midas: the host found and tested the program prior to mentioning on the show and noted the download links had been broken for a while, in addition to several users here for the past several years, so I think the site is just outdated. |
