PeerBlock v1.2 r693

webfork on 10 Feb 2019
  • 2MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 14 Jan 2014
  • Suggested by guinness

PeerBlock filters Internet connections from addresses of organizations and corporations that may harm user privacy while using the Internet and P2P networks. The program also contains a "Block HTTP" feature for use with web browsers that blocks advertisements, sites associated with spyware, and more. PeerBlock is a fork of the popular but inactive PeerGuardian, adding features and fixes as well as Windows Vista/7/8 and 64-bit versions.

Alternatively, Peerblock Portable is stealth and automatically selects the proper Peerblock variant for the current PC.

Category:
Runs on:WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8
Writes settings to: Application folder
Dependencies: Administrative rights
Stealth: ? No. Leaves registry entries: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_IPFILTERDRIVER and HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IpFilterDriver\Enum
License: GPL and zlib/libpng
How to extract:
  1. Download the ZIP package for your operating system and extract to a folder of your choice. Note that there are four variants: standard WinXP 32-bit & 64-bit, and Vista+ 32-bit and 64-bit
  2. Launch peerblock.exe
  3. When prompted, select types of organizations you would like to block

What's new?
  • Port Allow List - The new "Port Settings" tab allows you to unblock ports (incoming and/or outgoing). This means that PeerBlock will not filter any connections from/to those ports. This can for example be used if you're running PeerBlock on a public FTP server, or if you want to ensure that outgoing SMTP mail communications are never blocked. Many thanks to night_stalker_z for his hard work on this feature!
  • First-run Update Message - When you first run PeerBlock after upgrading, you will see a notice explaining why lists are only updating once per week. Hopefully this will help to alleviate people's confusion about this.
  • Better Weekly List-Updating - We've made some improvements that should help ensure that free users continue to get their free weekly list-updates.
  • I-Blocklist Subscription Settings - To make it easier for you to configure PeerBlock to use an I-Blocklist Subscription, new I-Blocklist Username/PIN fields have been added to the bottom of the "Settings 1" tab.
  • Separate Settings Tabs - Instead of having one Settings tab with those silly "Next" and "Prev" buttons on it, we've broken that out into two separate "Settings 1" and "Settings 2" tabs.
  • Improved List-Update Error Handling - We've worked with I-Blocklist, who hosts the vast majority of the lists people use, to create improved error messaging for the various problems that may occur when updating lists. If something occurs during update-checking, the error message displayed should be much more meaningful.
  • Improved List-update Error Window - Should you hit any errors while updating your lists - 429 or otherwise - we will now pop up a more informative error window, along with a button you can click to jump straight to our site to check for more information.
  • Updated Error Windows - If you encounter a catastrophic error, the message that appears will now tell you to go visit peerblock.com/errors. This will redirect you to a forum-post on which the most common error-messages are displayed, to help you figure out what has gone wrong, and what can be done to fix it.
  • (Re)Load Previously Downloaded Lists - Previously, there was a problem where if you disabled and then re-enabled a list in the List Manager, that list wouldn't be reloaded until it successfully downloaded an update. Now, if it can't update that list it will still load the last version you did successfully download.
  • Removal of Windows 2000 Support - Windows 2000 is quite old by now, we hope that nobody's still running it; if you are, you can continue using the previous PeerBlock version. This release does support all Windows variants from Windows XP through to Windows 8.1, including server variants. (But not Windows RT.)

I have downvoted the entry because the updates have gone payware and I have not been able to update the database in a while.

Yeas, my mistake, was referring to Minibin, oops....

shnbwmn on 2016-03-16 06:43

If you just want the recycle bin in the systray area on your main PC, then another way is to add it via quick launch. Right-click taskbar, toolbars, add ... %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch ... Unlock taskbar, untick show text/titles, tick large icons under view, lock taskbar. You can now drag items to this and they'll be added to the RB; right-click lets you empty it, and of course clicking it will open it.

Then you're free to remove that damned icon from the desktop. I know this isn't portable and of course it doesn't have the extra functions, but again, this is just if you want it in your tray on your main PC.

Belvedere is an automated file management tool that works between two or more directories. It allows you to create advanced, multi-level rules to move, copy, delete, rename, or open files based on their name, extension, size, creation date, and more. Also allows for compression, recursive (all files and subfolders) copy, as well as recycle bin management.

Note: The program processes files based on a variable number of milliseconds. By default, this is set to 3,000,000 milliseconds, or 50 minutes. Modify the Sleeptime under Preferences for more or less frequent changes. For example, for every 24 hours, enter 86,400,000, for every minute, enter 60,000, or for instant change, enter 100.

TapinRadio is my choice. It is a hefty 25 Mbytes, but it can play all of the formats in its database of 14,000 stations. And the GUI is my favorite.

I am Baas on 2012-01-24 14:21

Do not run the portable installer. See http://www.portablefreeware.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=46207#p46207

smaragdus on 2015-07-08 04:30

I don't get why one should use the latest version of TapinRadio which is ads-infested. The portable version of TapinRadio version 1.26 is clean- just extract and run. The installer of version 1.26 is also clean. Overall TapinRadio and Screamer Radio are quite similar but TapinRadio has a better handling of favourites (grouping).
