XMPlay Portable v3.8.2.3

billon on 15 Mar 2016
  • 626KB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 13 Mar 2016
  • Suggested by Ed Brownstein

XMPlay is a skinnable audio player that plays all major audio formats and includes gapless playback, effects, equalizer, net streaming. More features are available using plugins available via the product website, including visualizations, more format support, cover art, and more. Note that the library and playlist will not work as you change PCs.

Can play MP3, WMA, M4A, OGG, and more, as well as output to WAV, MP3, and OGG (via external encoders).

Alternatively, XMPlay is natively portable but does not automatically adjust library and playlist paths: download the ZIP package, extract to a folder of your choice, and launch xmplay.exe.

System Requirements: WinXP / Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
Unicode support: Partial. XMPlay plays audio files with Unicode filenames, but seems capable of displaying only information which is encoded in the current code page i.e. if your current code page is Chinese, it won't be able to display Korean filenames or tags.
Path portability: Automatic relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the self-extracting EXE to a folder of your choice. Launch XMPlayPortable.exe.

@smaragdus Thanks. I downloaded it. BTW, XMPlay archives older versions here:

The problem seems to be related to plugins. It's working now. See post at un4seen forums here:

There's a v3.8.2.3 available.

dbonnell1972 on 2016-12-08 17:11

I used to use WinAmp (over the years became bloated and tool forever to load), then tried Cool Player (good, but not enough features for me). XM Player is the perfect balance - super fast, reliable (so far), flexible, and customizable. J.U.S.T. Perfect!

FileMenu Tools v7.0.5

webfork on 8 Dec 2016
  • 14MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 27 Feb 2016
  • Suggested by pajenn

FileMenu Tools customizes the context menu of Explorer, adding built-in utilities for file and folder operations. Users can add customized commands that run external applications, copy/move to a specific folder or delete specific file types; customize the "Send to..." submenu; and enable/disable the commands which are added by other applications to the context menu.

The built-in utilities allow the user to run a given program with arguments, copy/move to a folder, copy path, UNC path, Internet path, name or content to clipboard, view or change attributes, split/join a file, register/unregister a DLL, find and replace, advanced rename, synchronize two folders, delete locked files, create symbolic link, calculate and verify SHA/MD5 checksums, shred files, change folders icon, and many more.

Supports 32 or 64-bit automatically. Note that this program has gone shareware so we are linking to the last freeware version (thanks billon) and Userfriendly).

System Requirements: Vista / Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: Application folder
Dependencies: Administrator rights (to register and unregister the shell extension)
Stealth: ? No. Windows settings are saved to the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LopeSoft.
Unicode support: Partial. The configuration tool handles Unicode text properly, but this text is displayed only partially correct in the context menu.
Path portability: Requires manual entry of relative path (eg. ..\..\personal\work.doc)
License: Freeware (Donations accepted)
How to extract: Warning: The installer version is adware. Make sure you are using FileMenuTools-portable.exe with the following process:
  1. Download the self-extracting EXE to a folder of your choice
  2. To use the program, launch Register FileMenuTools.exe to register the shell extension
  3. Right-click on an item in the Explorer to see the menu
Other functions:

  • Close/remove: launch Unregister FileMenuTools.exe
  • Configuration: launch FileMenuTools.exe to or choose Configure FileMenu Tools from the menu.
What's new? Fixed bugs:
  • Sometimes the separators was not enabled.
  • In Calculate and verify checksums: the calculated checksum field was not updated when calculating a new checksum.
  • In Advanced renamer: the preview was not updated when changing the selected item of combo boxes with mouse or keyboard.
  • Other minor.

Winyl is nice, what I miss (as usual) is support for Cue sheets, as far as I remember the developer once promised to implement it in the future but this future hasn't come yet.

Midas on 2016-01-26 12:42

@smaragdus: from the latest changelog, looks like your request has (finally) been granted... :)

smaragdus on 2016-01-28 05:42

Yes! I am glad I did a small contribution to the development of Winyl by testing it with some Cue sheets. The developer is a very helpful guy and he fixed all the problems some Cue sheets caused.
