Launchy is a keystroke-based program launcher. It indexes the shortcuts in the start menu and other user-specified folder, and attempts to match the partial substring you enter with the list of items in its index. When you run Launchy, it is completely hidden. You activate it by pressing [Alt-Space], and dismiss it by pressing [Esc].

This is how I fixed the problem...
I use Lupo's Universal Extractor - get the latest (v1.6 R8) updated Jan, 23, 2010. One problem, 'InnoUnp' is only @ 0.28, so you will need to get the latest 'innounp.exe' and update the \bin folder. This will do the trick, 'Launchy2.5.exe' can be extracted.

Inno Setup Unpacker (innounp029.rar) - (0.29)

It looks as if Lupo's UniExtractor (1.6) is having troubles with the latest Launchy executable v2.5.

Find and Run Robot is an excellent and light alternative to Launchy. It won't make it into this index b/c it requires *free* registration and will nag you until you do, but it's light, completely portable, and has a dozen good plugins. To make it portable, extract to any folder and add "PORTABLE=TRUE" to ConfigDir.ini. Run it anywhere; it will search the local Start Menu and Desktop and other directories for your search terms, plus your USB stick. See http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/findrun/index.html for more info.
I have so many portable apps, so I can't be bothered to create Start Menu shortcuts/groups for them all. I really should since they need categorizing.
Most of the time I know what I'm looking for so Launchy does a great job. I have it set to Win+Space as Alt+Space is a built-in Windows shortcut. Launchy is also quicker than burrowing through heaps of Start menu shortcuts and folders.
@Stealth: The QT DLLs it use create some registry entries under HKU\S-XXX\Software\Trolltech.
When I load this program from an autorun.inf->.bat file the little button in the corner for options disappears but when I click in the area it opens the window anyway. This doesn't happen when I launch the app directly from the folder, nor even from the command line.
Why isn't this program stealth?
i unpackaged, selected the option to make portable and added the folder to a rar. hopefully it will work for you.

According to many, launcy 2.0 is still memory hungry.
Another alternative, though not portable, is using Google desktop as a program launcher. Details here:

During the setup you can select portable installation. Delete unins000.exe and unins000.dat.
Launch Launchy.exe
