The autor of Portable Scribus used X-Scribus code(from to make the portable version!

Form the site of portable scribus: "My big problem was getting Scribus to save user settings in the Scribus folder. I then came across someone else's attempt at a portable Scribus, called XScribus, which is what I used as the bases for my Scribus launcher code."

This software is a marvelous attempt at making a great program portable, however - it DOES leave behind registry entries, all under: "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Trolltech" ...all regarding the location of the "Qt Plugins 3.3" (which are within the PortableScribus folder).

If the author could solve this, it would be truly fantastic! (I do not know how to reach the author)

"Concerned Individual": Thanks for letting me no. I had no clue it did that. I'll figure out a way to fix it. (Just in time, because I was about to release Portable Scribus

Great job again with the software. However, it looks like a key is still written to the registry: simply "Trolltech" under "HKLM\Software".

I love the program, but it would be great to see it not leave anything behind; that is, truly "portable."

Thanks for the hard work, Author!

Note that if you are running this on non-WinXP systems, you will need to place GDIPLUS.DLL in the application folder.

is this mean if i place GDIPLUS.DLL this in Application folder first, then i can run it both winxp and win98/winme?
correct me if i am wrong.

I think that's correct.

On startup of latest version ( I am getting the following message:

"The following programs are missing:
Ghostscript: You cannot use EPS images or PostScript Print Preview."
Suggestions to resolve are appreciated. According to the ReadMe.txt file, Ghostscript 8.56 is supposed to be included.

I think you're using an old scribus.ini file for the new version.

Two choices:
1. Delete (or rename) your scribus.ini file, and PortableScribus will recreate the file when launched.
2. Edit your scribus.ini file, and change "GSPath=/xyz/..." to "GSPath=Scribus/gs/"

I am having a similar problem. Followed the instructions on the Scribus webpage to install Scribus/Aqua 1.3.4, which includes adding Python 2.4 and Ghostscript to the /Library/Frameworks folder. (SourceForge included the option to download gpl-ghostscript-857B, which I assumed was a recent beta and chose not to touch.)

When Scribus is started, the splash screen comes up perfect and then the following error:
"The following programs are missing:
Ghostscript : You cannot use EPS images or Print Preview"

Clicking OK seems to make it all good, but I am wondering how to fix this.
Thoughts are appreciated.

Daniel, please go to the Scribus forums for support. PortableScribus is only a wrapper for making the Windows version of Scribus portable. (PortableScribus includes Scribus and gs...)

Has anyone been able to import an EPS file in Portabe Scribus?
I am failing miserably with eps files created in Matlab or in Inkscape. The non-portable version used to be fine...

mike 2008-09-25 22:28

is anyone aware of a spell checker that works with (portable) scribus?

Anyone able to import or paste cjk? I'm on Korean Win XP but it won't display Korean Text. I've tried .odt, .txt, and pasting from widows clipboard.

The font paths ARE SHOWN as availabe under File/preferences/fonts/available fonts.

English text pastes and imports just fine.
