IE Proxy Toggle is a system tray-based program to quickly switch the Internet Explorer proxy on and off. This is ideal when using a proxy service for security reasons and then disabling to avoid the additional bandwidth and generally slower speeds.

Category:
Runs on:WinXP / Vista / Win7
Writes settings to: Application folder
Stealth: ? Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract: Download the ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch IEProxyToggle.exe.
What's new?
  • Made it so the 0.ico and 1.ico icons are not overwritten when the program starts. This allows you, if you so desire, to swap out those two icons with your own.

Actually, I have made a mistake in my previous comment; one needs to set Firefox etc to 'Auto-detect ... ' to keep the proxy settings in sync with the 'toggle' state. If one selects the 'Use system ... ' option while 'IE proxy enabled', access is blocked.
So you probably did get the name more right than wrong!
I have to say, discovering this program via the update posted here was total serendipity. I had just set up an OpenSSH server, and was experimenting with PuTTY Portable so I could create SSH tunnels to and through it; your app just made my life so much easier!

@ skwire: Thanks for this good program.
The commandline mode is mentioned at "What's new >>"

You make a good point, AdrianK_IT, but it's probably too late to change the name. In the latest version, I added some commandline handling to make this application easily scriptable.

IEProxyToggle.exe -on
IEProxyToggle.exe -off
IEProxyToggle.exe -toggle

Thanks for the feedback. =]

Good program! However, it really should be called 'Internet Connection Options Proxy Toggle', because it will affect any program that connects to the internet using 'system proxy settings'. You can use it to control eg how Firefox or Thunderbird connect as well (or set them to use 'No proxy').
