PassMark OSFMount v2.0.1001

billon on 22 Mar 2018
  • 6MB (uncompressed)
  • Released on 22 Mar 2018
  • Suggested by Stone Tablet

OSFMount is a collection of virtual drive tools that allows mounting local disk image files as a drive letter, RAM disks and mounting CD or DVD images (for simplicity or speed). Supported image types include IMG, DD, ISO, BIN, NRG, SDI, AFF, AFM, AFD, VMDK (used by VMware), VHD (Virtual PC) and more.

The program is ideal for machines without a CD/DVD drive and, as most images are bit-for-bit copies of disk partitions, many programs will treat them as the real thing, enabling programs that require a program disc. For disk images, the program can give access to these files without booting or other required visualization software. RAM disks have a variety of uses including high speed caches, programs with frequent/intense disk reads/writes and some database applications.

Command line tools are also included.

Note: The developer warns: "it is recommended that 64-bit Windows is used when large disk image files are to be mounted."

System Requirements: Win7 / Win8 / Win10
Writes settings to: None
Dependencies: Administrator rights
Stealth: ? No. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_OSFMOUNT

Unicode support: Yes
License: Freeware
How to extract:
  1. Download the installer and extract to a temporary folder
  2. Move the files in {app} to a folder of your choice
  3. Launch OSFMount.exe
Similar/alternative apps: Portable WinCDEmu, DiskInternals Linux Reader
What's new?
  • Updated/added warning and error messages when using format option on command line when specifying a ram drive that is smaller than 260MB.
  • Fixed issue with detecting partitions for ImageUSB images.
  • Microsoft signed OSFMount.sys driver for Windows 10.

Be aware, this won't run on 64-bit versions of Windows.

Stone Tablet 2011-02-23 14:33

Both 32 bit and 64 bit versions can be downloaded from website.

Magibon 2011-03-07 02:40

This is my main ISO Mounting tool.

I was using MagicDisc, but it's not portable and requires installation.

Great Addition.

no problem here (using universal extractor 1.6.1)

AlphaMaleStud v1.23.083.324 2011-04-20 23:32

Well this could replace that weirdly named windows utility that Microsoft should of developed further or passed onto Sys Internals, so ah yes now I remember it's called [Virtual CDRom Control Panel AKA I have an easier time remembering all the random girls I pick up at the clubs every night] -- Pimps Up, Hoes Down

dAN 2011-04-21 08:11

Still cannot extract. Using Universal Extractor 1.6.1 too. The error is like "Jurkis" said.

the_watcher 2011-04-21 09:03

try to extract using lupo's updated version of universal extractor. Get it @

circlash 2011-05-03 17:04

you have to use latest innounp file.
download at

unrar downloaded file and copy innounp.exe to Universal extractor\bin

that's all. try again and it will unpack osfmount.exe.

Jurkis 2011-05-03 17:12

Thank you the_watcher - lupo extractor works as a charm.

Jurkis 2011-05-03 17:16

circlash, thank you too :)

shadowman 2011-05-03 18:00

This is not a support forum, I suggest the admin here updates the description and deletes all these useless "can't extract" comments. People including myself like to read the comments to see how well a software performs, I don't care for user incompetence!

Paul 2011-05-04 16:29

@ the shadowman .. you owe an apology .. very rude to show your frustration with no effort to research. Instant results for your consideration will not happen if the program cannot be extracted as per instructions.

universal extractor versions prior to 161 will not fully extract the archive unless you replace the innounp file as circlash informed jurkis, and the rest of us. Replacing this file allows even universal extractor version 1.42 to extract this subjects archive ..

I too was using MagicDisc but like this much better. I will use it for my ISO needs from now on.

Edit Reason:
I finally had time to thoroughly test this for "Stealth" and the results were "Stealth"!

I guess the original poster used RegShot and confused all the registry entries as not being stealth but that's just how RegShot is.

I used jv16 PowerTools to test:
- Launched Passmark OSF Mount
- Launched and Mounted ISO

both came out clean .. stealth :)

woo hoo ! I love this app. !

Ruby 2011-06-09 15:05

@Magibon "thoroughly test" < Seriously?

Also in:

Magibon 2011-06-10 00:42

@ Ruby

thanks for that.. i don't know why jv16 did not pick that up ..
it's only innitiated if you mount ..
which i did ..

I appreciate your kindness and for not acting all big, bad, and tuff over an innocent mistake :)

Ruby 2011-06-10 08:18

No problem, I'm sure you'll reciprocate should the occasion arise ;)

ChipsNHotSauce 2011-06-20 19:31

Here's a simple launcher if you want it to be stealth:

Magibon 2011-06-30 23:13

@ ChipsNHotSauce

how do i use that? mind explaining how to compile that?

ChipsNHotSauce 2011-06-30 23:47

@Magibon: You need AutoIt -
the script now unnecessary since v1.5.1007 :)

Magibon 2011-07-01 00:53

Anyone know if registry entry:

is part of usage or considered from OSFMount?
It was created after mounting.

Ruby 2011-07-01 01:26

I think that key (CD File System) MIGHT be updated on restart, you wrote "created" could that be "modified".

If you export a registry key and 'Save as type' *.txt , you can then open in Notepad and see timestamps.

nickel5 2012-07-20 15:12

Magibon, would you be willing to reupload your NSIS launcher? I've got a few projects it would be perfect for.

Magibon 2013-10-24 19:23

both architecture's executable still says v1.5.1013?

webfork 2014-02-08 22:15

I looked everywhere for something that could open a VMDK after VMware Fusion dumped it's disk mount tool a while back (it may have come back, I don't know). Here it was in freeware format, able to load as a separate disk the whole time. Sigh.

Also the RAM disk thing is cool.

Midas 2014-02-10 11:59

Registry keys still present with the current version. :(

Regarding instructions: I would advise against deleting the HTML folder, since it contains the online help that gets called from several places in OSFMount UI -- plus, disk space spared is negligible (>500KB), a gain that could also be earned by UPXing the main executable...

freakazoid 2014-05-11 15:48

So I needed to extract some audio from a .BIN file. OSFMount couldn't detect the image properly. What worked for me was CDmage. It's also stealth ;)

Midas 2014-05-12 16:06

@freakazoid: CDmage is ancient, I'm surprised someone even uses it anymore... :)

skall 2015-02-23 10:21

whenever i try to mount an image (different formats), the message 'wrong parameter' appears and the new drive is not selectable? i am using the 64bit version and have admin rights.

any hints what might cause this?

i might be wrong, but it seems like this is the only up to date portable virtual cdrom software for win8.1?

Portable Reviewer 2015-09-15 12:36

@Midas CDmage works like a charm unlike PassMark OSFMount despite "being ancient". Nothing ancient about it. PassMark OSFMount couldn't detect my image file properly as @freakazoid experienced. In fact very few free portable mount tools could handle my image file properly. I'm surprised you don't use CDmage to mount......
