Linux Live USB Creator allows you to create a bootable drive with any of a long list of distributions. The program is faster than similar tools and can use almost any bootable ISO (excluding Windows XP or Mac OS X). Additionally, the program supports the Linux "Persistence" feature, which works like a Live distribution while saving your data and settings. Persistence enables you to keep your settings between sessions, while reduces the wear on USB flash media by keeping writes to a minimum.

Note:

  • This project has been discontinued
  • Although this program works with a portable version of VirtualBox (available from the download page) to let users test an OS without rebooting, this has not been tested as portable.

Works great on my 8gb drive. Only problem is that persistence doesn't work with Virtual Box on W7/Vista. U can have 1 or the other but not both. Bummer. Should be OK on XP machines though.

I just use the http://www.pendrivelinux.com installers. LiLi is a neat concept much like UNetbootin, but definately has it's share of bugs.

Hi Jerry.
You are right. I found the X.
And after testing the other vicente-navarro applications, I found more problems to run 2 or 3 different distributions.
Neider LILI can do this, but maybe it will be some time.
My connection is slow and I cannot download the special VirtualBox application to make persistent installation.
Thank you for the hints.

López:
- The graphical interface is a little confusing, but there is a large red X at the top of the Window to exit at any time.
- You have to either select the USB device before you can change the persistence setting, or set the option of format before installing.
- I was able to get a persistent install of Karmic on 3 different sticks. Currently running an 8g USB stick with a 4g persistent region. I only use it on my Dell laptop w Windoze, and so far no problems.

But there is a solution.
Allways there are, we only need to seek.
A small application from [http://www.vicente-navarro.com/blog/2008/09/24/arrancar-bartpe-desde-memorias-usb-en-fat32-y-mucho-mas-rapido/] shows that you only need two things.
1. USB-Stick.zip utility.
2. Grub4Dos.

They give instructions in Spanish. But everybody can translate.

Simple and working fast.
Regards

It could be a good application, when it were fixed.
I found some errors:
- No exit. The program does not have exit button.
- No persistence. The size of persistence was fixed to 0. No way to change it. My stik has 8 GB...
The stik does not worked at all. Even formatting it.
Any way, it is free.
Regards.
