Simple Port Forwarding
V3.0.8 |

[r4]: Unfortunately, it doesn't work well in Windows 98 SE. First, you need to change the file _Install_Files_Needed_For_SPF_32bit_System.bat and replace every occurence of %systemroot% with %winbootdir%, then execute the file.
Once you have that done, run the application and update the database... And this is where I'm stuck -- the application doesn't recognize its own database entries. There's no way to select router from the list, because it's empty.
I guess I'll stick to managing port forwarding by hand. Anyway, the app seems promising for the less tech-savvy users! [2009-12-05 08:30]
iHavezMyBirdo: This is really useful; internet is slow, so this pretty much makes the process faster. [2009-12-05 18:49]
Michael: I think it's also having a problem with Windows 7, at least trying to run it from a Temp directory. [2009-12-10 15:07]
Shane: The program uses MDAC to read the database, make sure you have the newest MDAC from Microsoft installed on your Win98 system :-)
On the database.exe you can open that with winrar and see it is good. Feel free to upload it to virustotal.com to be sure :-) [2009-12-11 17:28]

a.g.: this app is NOT portable and NOT stealth. It requires to copy files into your systems directories, see the readme and check the file _Install_Files_Needed_For_SPF_32bit_System.bat
It uses on-localised target directories /like regsvr32 /s %systemdrive%\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\DAO\DAO350.DLL) in the copy and register operations and potentially copies old version of those files over your newer versions.
My personal opinion is to stay away from this app. [2009-12-29 09:49]
a.g.: I meant "non-localised" in the previous post [2009-12-30 09:25]
OldTimer: You should read a little better
IF NOT EXIST %systemdrive%\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\DAO\DAO350.DLL copy _Files_Needed_For_SPF\DAO350.DLL %systemdrive%\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\DAO\DAO350.DLL
regsvr32 /s %systemdrive%\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\DAO\DAO350.DLL
notice the "IF NOT EXIST" on every one of the files. It ONLY copies the files if they are not already on the system. SO no files are replaced. With most VB apps some extra files are needed. AT least the user is in control this way and not a setup program. [2010-01-09 16:11]
OldTimer: Also looks like DAO350.DLL is no longer in 2.7.5 that was released. According to the change log the program now uses ADO instead of DAO to read the database. :-) [2010-01-11 21:14]
Chris: Just a note with the new v3 - the program has now been split into free and pro versions. [2010-05-20 10:08]
OldTimer: v3.0.2 is 100% portable now, no more files needed to install on the system. Also the port forwarding part of the program is still free, only extra features are part of the pro version :-) [2010-06-11 21:48]
bajaatan: This program is restarting my win xp sp2. Tried 3 times in two days.
It happened 5-10 seconds after I exit program.
Maybe in combination with some other installed program.
Anyone else experienced this? [2010-06-25 07:48]

For more general topics (eg. whether apps that write to the registry, leave traces on the host machine, rely on certain versions of IE etc. can be considered portable), please post to the Portable Freeware Discussion forum. If your virus scanner has detected a virus in the application, please email the author directly or post to the forum. Note that false positives (i.e. flagging a virus when there is actually none) are extremely common for virus scanners. When in doubt, try an online scanner like Online Malware Scanner or VirusTotal, which scans files using multiple anti-virus engines. It is very likely to be a false positive if only a few engines raise the red flag.
