As of Firefox 49, Firefox requires SSE2 just like Pale Moon. Thus, there are no longer differences in system requirements between Firefox and Pale Moon. I dropped all the text about Pale Moon's system requirements.

The portable Slimjet-Version (x64) creates 3 main registry-entries:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FlashPeak
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Slimjet
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google
...but although these entries contain quiet some stuff, it's safe to remove them. I wrote a small batch:
@echo off
start /wait "" "slimjet.exe"
REG DELETE "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FlashPeak" /f
REG DELETE "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Slimjet" /f
REG DELETE "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google" /f

If I delete the Mozilla folder in AppData, run and immediately close FF Portable, that folder is left behind.

Your instructions above say "Launch Start Tor Browser.exe and answer a few quick questions about your connection". Those instructions are misleading and confusing. I was stumped for a while until I realized the "Start Tor Browser" file is a shortcut, NOT an executable. Please correct the instructions by removing the text ".exe".

I needed to connect to an onion site and downloaded the latest version (5.0.2) but Australis makes Tor Browser absolutely terrible and unusable- I do not want to install heaps of add-ons just to restore features the Mozilla idiots removed. I had an earlier version of Tor Browser (3.6.0- before the advent of the abominable Australis) but the perpetual blinking of the Tor button urging for update is unbearable and cannot be disabled. It can be removed from the tool-bar but this way one cannot acquire new identities.

  • Suggested by freakazoid

SRWare Iron is a privacy-enhanced web browser based on Chromium, the open source project behind Google Chrome. By default, Iron sends out less information as compared to Chrome (e.g., creating a unique user ID or the submission of entries to Google to generate suggestions), making it potentially more privacy friendly and secure in operation.

Iron supports both official and unofficial themes and some extensions from Chrome. Additionally, to enable blocking ad servers, a 'adblock.ini' is present in the program folder, and Opera's 'urlfilter.ini' can easily be converted to Iron's accepted format by following these instructions (or see comments below).

Note: It is recommended you change the homepage. The Iron default homepage may contain ads or links to fake adware-containing downloads.

Alternative packages:

  • Iron Portable (adds password portabilization, path portabilization, registry cleanup and Java support)
  • X-Iron (idem)

Category:
System Requirements: Win7 / Win8 / Win10

How to extract: Download the "Portable" ZIP package and extract to a folder of your choice. Launch IronPortable.exe.

XP/Vista is no longer supported but the last release version 49 is available.

Just noting that Iron Portable and SRWare Iron Portable, as well as GoogleChromePortable and X-Chromium, create these registry keys:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Google\Chrome\Extensions

HKU\*\Software\Google
HKU\*\Software\Google\Chrome
HKU\*\Software\Google\Chrome\Extensions

Also note that the HKLM key is hidden in regedit. I can see it being created using Regshot and get to it and delete it with an alternate registry editor. I don't know how the key is protected. (Any info appreciated.)

The only Chromium browser that doesn't create these keys is Chromium Portable (http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=2169).

They also create the following folders/files:

C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\Chromium
C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\Chromium\User Data
C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\Chromium\User Data\Crashpad
C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\Chromium\User Data\Crashpad\metadata

I use both this and the SeaFox extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/sea-fox/) and after some further tweaking, I am pretty satisfied with the results.

I use SeaFox as well, but I just use the Default theme.

Classic Firefox theme for SeaMonkey doesn't really make much of a difference in my layout, except a few icon changes.

Speaking of icons, use the Classic Toolbar Buttons addon to change some of the default icons. It doesn't change the Bookmark, RSS or Tab Throbber icons though.

I can confirm what smaragdus said about v2.1.0.

Memory usage hovers around 120-140 MB RAM, but that is to be expected when the core engine is now updated to use QtWebEngine, which is powered by Chromium. To compare, I had an older version of Qupzilla v1.8.6 lying around and that used 210 MB RAM.

It's a good alternative to the existing Chromium-powered browsers, but if you're using a Chromium backend, you might as well use Chromium so you can gain access to the wealth of available extensions out there rather than some homebrewed versions that come with QupZilla.

UPDATED TO 12.18!!!11
no changelog yet on off. page

Specular on 2016-02-16 07:31

@billon mmm, it's odd. Just had a pop-up informing of a new version to download which is apparently v12.18 yet no official changelog has been released.

However did find an old My Opera stalwart who posted some of the changes over on the Vivaldi forums. Will continue this discussion on the PF thread...

K-Meleon v75.1 would correspond roughly to v1.75.1 -- this change in version numbering was caused by K-Meleon being discriminated against by a few major sites, which deemed it an obsolete browser option just because it was v1, triggering stern warnings and resulting in denial of access...

smaragdus on 2015-09-24 11:36

@Midas
Can you please give me these major sites to blacklist them? Idiocy should not be tolerated. Do these major sites treat for example Vivaldi the same way? In their idiotic way if thinking every brand new browser should be blocked as obsolete.
Yet I think that version number is ridiculous and If I was the developer I would not succumb to the idiots running these sites.

Not bad but can't work with Java.

ttttt11111 on 2013-09-17 17:14

I was worried that QtWeb was as dead as K-meleon. It hadn't been updated in more than a year. Thankfully, I was wrong.

QtWeb makes for a great secondary browser or portable browser, or even as a primary browser if you don't like bloatware. It's small and fits on a flash ram of at least 2GB, and contains all modern web technologies except java.

The lack of java isn't a problem for those who don't visit sites laden with that crap. It works with adobe flash, so youtube and other sites work fine.

The only downside to QtWeb is a lack of plugins or extensions. It would be nice to have an adblocker (especially for youtube) or other content blocker.

SYSTEM on 2016-09-26 18:03

I adjusted the entry for the fact that Qt is now a publicly traded company, no longer owned by Digia. (Funnily enough, it's traded in Nasdaq Helsinki, of all stock exchanges...)

The Off By One Web Browser is a small and fast browser with full HTML 3.2 support. It is a completely self-contained, stand-alone application with no dependencies on any other browser or browser component. As it does not support Java, Javascript or Flash, you won't get problems with popups and spyware, but many pages will not render as they do in other browsers.

Unicode support: No
License: Freeware
How to extract:
  1. Download the ZIP package (with or without OpenSSL DLLs) and extract to a folder of your choice
  2. Create an empty file called OB1.INI in that folder (otherwise the application will write to C:\WINDOWS\OB1.INI by default)
  3. Launch OB1.exe

I've tried it, it is indeed amazingly fast but that's about all. Chaotic, even the tabs get mixed up, removed , renamed, wow, wowsus, a dinosaur :)

Officer on 2010-09-08 05:46

Though it seems fast, it has inherited defects. (1)If you want to open website "Miniclip", you have to type miniclip+Ctrl+Enter in other browsers, whereas this browser does not open. In this browser you have to type full addresses every time you open them (2) Either no favourites can be copied from the IE nor favourites can be kept in this browsers. The purpose of portable, taking with us, while going out, is forfeited. These defects need to corrected atonce.

Tom on 2010-12-04 22:52

It is fast. It kinda sucks though... it's too limited and seems like it might be buggy. Can't even handle a large wiki page very well. At least on my computer....

This is absolutely a HORRIBLE app and a complete waste of time and bandwidth. It seems Mozilla would have something to say about it. This browser would not even load some of the most common pages on the net, even after I changed all security settings to allow and accept everything. It's horrible, just horrible!

bob2345 on 2010-02-24 11:51

OK I might be wrong but downloaded this and ran the self-extractor exe which actually installs it on your system as its visible from the start menu, which to me isn't portable. Not only that but if you dont want to pay its defaults to version 2. Rubbish!
