It's a bug in Opera.

When you type into the search field, the "Configure search engines" option appears below the field. If you accidentally hover that option when you press Enter, you will select it instead of performing the search.

oh wow!
you're sooo right...

Now it make sense .. i was pulling my hair out trying to pin-point the glitch.

I guess the "accidental" happens when the mouse hover is below it then pressing Enter.. selects the Properties.. lol.

I hope Opera is able to fix this in the next release.

ANOTHER GLITCH:
Sometimes copying and then "paste and go" into the Speed Dial's search doesn't work.
Opera adds "HTTP://" or "HTTPS://" to beginning of pasted search term causing an error return vs. searching.

I also hope Opera fixes this glitch, in previous versions.. this was not a problem.

An alternative to this glitch is copying the text, then right-click, and select "Search" from Opera's context menu.
But this is not feasible in all scenarios.

AFAIK, Opera 9.x was not natively portable. :(

No it wasn't, plus I don't know how vulnerable V9 is an Internet that is changing.

operaprefs_default.ini
Multi User=0

Also, you can still get version 9.64 of Opera@USB:
http://opera-usb.com/downloadold.htm

You might want to download the archive and poke around in the ini's.
Make sure to get the 'Complete' not the 'Update' download.

Try Ctrl + Shift + F with Web Developer installed for it's Display Element Information function (or look under Information) or install Firebug ten you can either add inspect Element to the nav bar or use App Menu (top left) -> Web Developer -> Firebug -> Inspect Element.

I only discovered it in Web Developer by accident and Firebug can get confusing.
